| Unable to upload photos after upgrade
For some reason, I've we've lost the ability to upload photos after the upgrade to 6.11. Before the upgrade there weren't any issues uploading. The initial complaint was a user received a 403 error on uploading, which I initially assumed was a permissions issue, but no permissions had been changed. The data and upload folders - and subfolders - are still 777 (they haven't changed - I checked them myself).
The only thing permissions-wise that was changed was open_basedir was turned OFF (Safe mode had already been turned off)
The first thing I checked the the plugin system (turned it off) due to the issue I had in another thread that resulted in another issue, which thanks to Chuck, was resolved.
When I attempt to upload a photo it does this:
I click Select Images.
I browse and select the image I want. I click open.
It acts as if it uploads it. It disappears. I am back where I was before.
I can click Select Images and choose the same image again and attempt to upload it again. Same situation.
If I click Process Image, it acts as if it does so and returns me to my personal gallery.
Also, where are individual files stored (I know they are not stored in the database and that they are stored in the file system)? For example, showphoto.php/photo/49711/size/big/cat/ - where would I navigate to in FTP to find the actual photo?

it is under the data directory the file is.
As far as uploading you may place a link and test login here

The data directory looks like this:
1
1000
...
1422
2
500
...
999
where ... represents incremental values between the above and below.
The largest number I see in there is 1422 (where would 49711 fit?). This is totally different than vBulletin's 4/9/7/1/1/ attachment storage convention, which is why I am asking.
As for the second part, this is the same site as the previous issue.

Our storage convention is out own
/data/catid/filename
As far as error I would suggest you check your server error logs make sure uploads directory and all directories beneath it are 777 permissions

What is a catid? and where would I find 49711 if the number only goes up to 1422 or 2? I'm trying to understand this.
Meanwhile, I'm requesting the server team re-chmod all required directories and subdirectories 777 even though they are already 777.

The catid is the numeric number of the category in question
I am not seeing that uploads are working on your site at all so you might want to contact the host and see if the server logs say anything looks to me like your server is dropping the image

Thanks - I contacted the server to rechmod the directories/subs as FTP has a 300 sec timeout and they did (otherwise it takes forever) and they have done so.
I am seeing the same thing (dropping images) when attempting to upload as when I upload the image disappears.
Question. When open_basedir is in effect (which it was before I requested stopped) we could not upload images from URLs to the normal site without putting image uploading into a tmp directory based on open_basedir setting. Once open_basedir was turned off, that issue became fixed and no more image uploading temp mode. Is there anything that would affect Photopost by open_basedir being turned off?

I cant say as I can not see how your server is setup but they obviously did something like turn safe mode on or disable file uploads or something along that line. They would need to verify file uploads are working on the server as it would appear this is not working.
You can at this point with whatever changes they made not even upload a 100kb file I have tried

I'm theorizing here, but it looks like once open_basedir was taken out of effect, modsec ( mod_security ) started causing issues, so we disabled that. Now it works.

That could do it. Yeah they locked down the ability to upload with mod_security |
