Error Uploading Files

I was having issues with 5.3, so I upgraded to 6.11. When I try to upload a picture I get the following error:

and down on the bottom of the screen it says the following:

(): Sorry, this image type is not supported yet.

??? they are only jpg's afterall.

Am I missing some permissions somewhere?

Have you attemped to verify that your uploads and data directories are 777 at every level beneath them?

I wasn't sure if I needed to chmod 777 recursively on those directories so I just did and still getting the error. Also I tried to do a bulk upload and get the following:

I verified the files are still in the /photopost/uploads/1 folder.

Does the 636 directory exist under data?

Is safe mode set to off under phpinfo in admin?

yes the 636 directory does exist with 777. I checked phpinfo and safe_mode is set to off.

Then well you need to verify in global options and storage options in admin your server path to the data directory is correct. obviously your changing your exact error so its hard to give accurate answer but I think now we have covered all the reasons that error can occur.
