Angry Lost actual photos again

Hello,...

it did it again.. after upgrading to 6.11, I has some issues with some photos not showing other than the thumbnails...

so I scanned one category and it deleteds the photos from the folder.. they do not exist anymore (I checked via FTP).

this had happened before and I hated this scan feature, but thought oh well

I had nothing but trouble this morning upgrading PP but at last I got everything working but few issues

not all photos show up after I click on thumbnails
one category is totaly wiped out after I did scan on it

am I doing something wrong? why scan deleted the actual files then tells me phot doesn't exist? sure it doesn't cuz it deleted it

I am going to ask my host to restore that folder and I will find a way to just start over with PP running on its own, not with vB and hope I can restore all photos manually.

please advice to why scan deletes the files and this is not the first;

Thank you

You can ask your host to restore not the folder as the images are still there you need to have then restore a backup of your pp_photos table. If your photos where deleted then in Admin => Global options or Storage Options your server path to the data directory is incorrect. Therefore what happens if you try and rebuild images we can not find them so we remove them from the database since the image where your telling us it is does not exist.

I hope this clarifies the issue. once you correct your paths and restore that database table things should show fine but the paths need to be correct.

Hello Chuck,...

Thanks for your response,,

the storage path/dir are fine.. it was working just fine before the upgrade and I can see all photos.. and I did not change any of that and I did check too

in every category, after the upgrade, it will show some photos and not others and thats what made me do scan.
as for the images (files), they were there but as soon I ran scan on that category, PP deleted the files off my folder.

I made a backup of pp databse before I upgraded and also had one before that.. when I tried to restore them via SSH, it throw garbage on screen that I've never seen before.. I use SSH all the time with vB

so I am not sure I will have any luck with pp database.
but I do need the photo files resotred as they are gone off the server in that category.

anyway.. I will go now and double check the path for data

EDIT:
www.xxxxxxxx.com/photo/data
/home/xxxxxx/public_html/photo/data

TAKE2:
oops.. I was using the origianl images folder and I missed it after the upgrade

Thanks again Chuck.. I have changed the settings for the Original images folder now and I just need the deleted files to be restored by my host..

You need to then restore the data directory and the database table as well

yes you need to restore the photos table so Photopost knows there are photos.

all good now.. got the missing thumbnail back

Thanks alot for pointing me to the right direction

one more thing I am not sure if this has been reported or not
I use two accounts on two PCs and always invisible on the forum, but PP still shows me to all. I viewd the gallery as a guest and I could see my user name in there.

EDIT: oops.. I turned category cache back on after scan and now the cat. list is just messed up, no spaceing and no info .. the gallery still ok just the cats. list is so messed up

TAKE2: false alarm .. I followed your advice in another thread and deleted the cache table and all is good now. thanks
