Upgraded - Getting Error Code on Thumbnail.

I am getting this error after upgrading to the current version when I upload an item. Any suggestions what might have happened or I need to do?

Error creating thumbnail! Error code: 1

Command:

saw the other posts on this topic, and changed to GD2 - but the thumbnails images are broken. Perhaps a permission must be changed? Any suggestions?

when i try to rebuild thumbnail of my test image I get this:

okay - i know i'm adding to this but hoping it helps more with answers.

i go in and there is no "thumbs" or any of the folders from my upgrade in the 500 folder. i try to reload them and it tells me the directory exists. i'm really confused on what happened with that.

well first off what did you upgrade from which version to what version?

Your data and uploads directories should be 777 permissions at every level.

what is the url?

If permissions where correct and upgrade was done right there should be thumbs mini and medium directories under each numeric data folder.
