Upgrade error, old installation also now broken

Before I uploaded the 6.01 Photopost Pro files to upgrade my 6.0 I tarballed my 6.0 installation. I uploaded all the 6.01 files but got a blank page when I went to my gallery.

So I removed the new installation and untarred the 6.0 files. Now I get a blank page when I try to access admin and the main gallery site is shown as closed and displays the search page for me.

What has gone wrong??

Bob

I can not say without errors posted from your site. If its a blank page try searching your server error logs for errors or in your php settings turn display_errors to on in php. More than likley a corrupt file or possibly you messed up your config files. The point being as long as you have a valid database with the proper info to access entered in config you should be okay as long as the files uploaded are not corrupt. There is no database changes between 6 and 6.01. Make sure both config files have the proper information within them.

Thanks. Let's forget the upgrade for the moment. I removed all the 6.01 files and I replaced all the 6.0 files from the tar file I made before the upgrade. I also replaced the db with a backup from before the attempted upgrade.

I have checked the settings table in the db and all is correct.

I have checked the 6.0 config files and all are correct.

The gallery now opens in the search page and will not change from that when you click Home.

The admin page is blank and this is the source code that shows
Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Wierd?

Try running through an install it will not delete any old data somewhere you have paths wrong or database corruption a url might help let us see your gallery here. The whole point a white page does not give much info.

OK, I think I have found what has caused this. I run a PHP cache app - APC. I restarted httpd to clear the cache and all is well.

Anyone come across this before?

Yeah looks like your fine now sorry have not heard anything on apc cache yet.

http://us2.php.net/apc

It seems though from some quick reading that there can be problems if it tries to cache database results.

Yes that is correct, databases should not be cached, just the php files. I have a feeling that is what is happening with my server so I might disable it for a few days and see how it goes.

There is an alternate php cache app - XCache. That has been getting some good reviews.

There is a lot of activity over at vbulletin.com about php cache.

Yeah heard a little on XCache but the initial reading about APC does appear to point to it caching database results which can lead to issues.
