I ahve been getting some strange errors

Should I reinstall the complete package again or do you know what is going wrong here:

The details are I am logon as a adminstrator and i go to the admin control panel and select edit category

and on top it allows me to add a new top level category and i fill out the name and decsription when I select the save button i get the following error message :

Error adding new category to the database. Returned id was 0.

can you explain what has happened and maybe how to fix it short of reinstalling the sofwtare again all over again.

Off top of my head look at your phpinfo has your server been updated recently? Is the build date on php new this would tell you server has been updated. Is mysql set in safe mode on?

If you turn on the debug option in admin to display errors do you get any errors adding a cat?
