Swedish characters become question marks

Just installed Photopost. I've specified Swedish language, but the ÅÄÖ characters become question marks on a black background, see the attached pic. What causes this?

Code:

(I tried to make an IMG tag to a screenshot above, but it doesn't work. It just becomes a link instead.)

well no one can guarantee everyone can see different languages but I think this might be easy issue.

I notice whomever submitted this language translation is still using the charset meta tag of english ISO-8859-1. However Swedish is Nordic in origin and you should be using ISO-8859-10. So edit the actual charset tag at the top of your swedish.php language file in the photopost languages subdirectory and correct the meta tag to the alternate encoding and see what happens. If that does not help try UTF-8.

Actually, ISO-8859-1 is the correct character set.

I found the problem: if a default character set is selected with AddDefaultCharset in the Apache configuration, the browser selects that set and ignores the char set specified in the HTML file. Doesn't make sense to me, but that's the way it seems to work.

Changing "AddDefaultCharset UTF-8" to "AddDefaultCharset off" solved it!

In other words, the problem was with Apache and not with Photopost.
