5.3 to 6.0

I'm attempting to upgrade from 5.3 to 6.0.

I was following the directions for a fresh install, because your upgrade directions are seriously buried (you should really put the upgrade instructiuon next to the install instructions on the downlioad page). So, I've already gone ahead and uploaded all the new files, including the new config file. When I try to run the install, it obviously yells at me because the database already exists.

So then I figured out there was an upgrade.php. When I click on the 5.3 link, I get the intro page, but then it all goes blank. Is there something else I should be running?

Thanks

Hello

Upgrade instructions are in the documentations folder of the downloaded code. You would upload all files except the config files and install file and then run the upgrade file and run all upgrades from 5.3 through the end.

Did you do anything like overwrite config files?

I sure did!

I still have the old one though. I'll try putting that back in and going from there.

OK, I'm still getting the same blank page (while using the 5.3 config file).

Oh, I forgot to add that the 5.3 version wasn't working properly. My server people did something weird to imagemagick (I've spent the last three days trying to figure out what). GD2 works though. So, I probably need to change:

$mogrify_command = "/usr/bin/mogrify";

to whatever the GD2 is?

But if I change it, will the upgrade work?

Is there anyway to go ahead with a fresh install, yet use my old database?

Thanks for our help. I know this is all kind of a mess. I'm doing the best I can with it.

well I would suggest you make sure you have ran your upgrades 5.3 -6.0 and you can try running install.php and go through an install to correct any misconfiguration errors you may have. Upgrades are for properly working sites so obviously there are issues elsewhere and the install should set things right.

The upgrades aren't working.

And neither is the install.

When I run the first upgrade (5.3 to whatever), I get a blank page. This is probably because of the imagemagick problem in the config file. If you can tell me what the php code would be for the GD2, I would greatly appreciate it. I know the path for GD2, just not the gobbledygook that comes before it.

When I try to run the 6.0 install, it freaks out on me because I am trying to use a previously-populated database. So, if there is a way to get the install done without losing or clearing out my old database, that would be fine too.

Help!

there is nothing about imagemagick that is going to cause an error like that. More like corrupt database or incorrect database settings in config

You can email us with a url admin login and ftp info and we can take a look.
