Error message when trying to upload

I'm using PhotoPost PHP vB3 Enhanced, purchased in 2005. If I need to renew something with a payment I'm happy to do so. I do not have easy access to my license #.

The error we're getting when trying to upload is:

Unable to move file [/tmp/phprOEEml] [/home/swepics/public_html/gallery/uploads/21/filename.JPG]

We have made no changes to the site, vbulletin, or anything, and it appears that it was working as recent as 9/6/07.

Any help is appreciated!

Our install instructions should help. Your data and uploads directories at every level must be set to 777 permissions for uploads to function and that error tells me permissions have not been set to 777 for that directory.

We had it installed for us, and as I said, it was working fine until 9/6/07 and we made no changes to anything.

I will double check that though.

Sometimes hosts can transition your site to another server if they have to take one offline and permissions can be knocked off directories etc.

Well, I did, and all the folders under "gallery" were 777. I changed the gallery folder itself to 777 and now get an error 500.

So I went back to change the gallery folder back to what it was originally, to find that it had already reverted back to what it was originally, and still we are getting the error message.

Please help, now it's worse than before.

EDIT: now it's an error 403.

And now the forum index is giving an error 500. The permissions are exactly what they were to begin with and now everything is screwed up.

The permissions of our program are listed in the install document the only directories that should be 777 are the data and uploads folders in your gallery directory and they must be 777 at every level beneath them as instructed in the install instructions. Once you set permissions as noted in that install document your error will be gone.

I am using an FTP program to do this and every time I change the permissions, by the time I go back the beginning to doublecheck, the permissions have reverted. I did this 4 times. It's not letting me change them.

The forums and gallery were working before, at least we could see them. It was only after I started poking around with permissions that I got the error pages. I don't see how changing permissions would fix that. But this is why we paid to have one of you guys install it for us, and unfortunately I know nothing more about the system than I did when it was installed.

Now even the main forums which are in a totally different folder, are giving an error.

It could be that I have unwittingly somehow altered the index or config files by merely opening them. I would appreciate if you or someone could take a look. I will be happy to email my ID and password for FTP.

I cant respond your forums but if you have ftp to your server and attempted to set permissions you may need to ask your host for help here as you may have an issue with permissions on your server they need to fix.

Where is a link to your gallery?

The reason I mentioned the forums at all is that they stopped working instantly along with the gallery, even though I had done nothing but look at the gallery's permissions. And since it didn't let me change them in the first place, I don't think that permissions were the problem.

I did open the gallery config files, which might have somehow altered them, notepad is funny that way. I can post the config files here if that will help, or email them.

Got the forums back. Was able to make sure permissions are set and do not revert, they are sticking for now. Gallery still gives 403 error but I'm not as panicky now. Since permissions are set I do think it's now down to the config files but I'll try whatever you suggest.

Make sure the directories and files as noted are set like permissions suggest on the install.php files should be 644. It does not look like a config error it looks to me like permissions.

Not a problem let me know I suspect your file permissions are not correct. You main php files should be 644.

Okay, got everything back to where it was at the start: back to the first message when trying to upload.

Unable to move file [/tmp/phprOEEml] [/home/swepics/public_html/gallery/uploads/21/filename.JPG]

All permissions are set forth exactly as they are supposed to be.

So your saying uploads as well as the 21 directory are 777?

Okay if thats the case check to ensure your PHP under PHPINFO in admin has safe mode off per our applications requirements. Safe Mode has to be off. To our knowledge that error can only be caused by permissions meaning the directory is not 777 or safe mode is on and the server prevents the action.

Yes, they are set to 777. I'll take a look at the safe mode, thanks.

It's hard for me to get the time to poke around my cpanel or file manager without knowing what I'm looking for. Where would I find this PHPINFO?
