Why is Photopost such a mess to upgrade?

Been trying all day to go from 4.8 to the current version and it has been nothing but hell. HELL! I look through these boards and I see a zillion users who also pass through the storm. Reason why I delayed the upgrade for so long.

Of course you guys will come in here now to say everyone else is wrong but you and the system is perfect, instead of taking a step back to see maybe a zillion people having issues really mean something is amiss somewhere. Hours of my life repeating the same process again and again, restoring files and db, running upgrade. The system chokes at "Preparing to remove files which are no longer used by PhotoPost"

Next thing I see is "We're sorry, but the system experienced an unrecoverable error. Please try again later"

One wonders if little thought is put into this upgrade process in other to generate additional revenue through paid upgrades. Its such a mess.

I own 4 active VB licenses. Never had an upgrade issue ONCE. Not once. 3 Subdreamer licenses. No issue ever. So many other apps I run, no issue upgrading. But whenever I have to upgrade PP Classifieds, Photpost, Reviewpost, I go to hell and back. Something is wrong and you guys need to be told and somehow made to admit it, to move forward. Try recoding this app from Scratch like maybe Phpmydirectory, so you can get rid of all the legacy baggage. Something is wrong somewhere.

Okay, you free to go into denial again. Me, I will go and restore everything all over, just to start again. I already see it failing anyway...

Hello

I do upgrades and installs all the time and have no issues. In fact I am the one who performs them for the company. In fact the only issues I see from people on this forum that have issues is when they do not follow the upgrade instructions or install instructions. I should know as I am the one who tells them what they have done wrong. You can choose to beleive us or not thats your right. However clear cut example from our support forums if you go from 4.8 to the newer version and run the step3 of the 485 upgrade your toast. If you upgrade your files but miss running an upgrade script version your toast. If permissions are not set according to the install documentation you can have errors. Every last issue reported is easily explained and has no issues with the upgrade process itself but a lack of doing something that is suppose to be done or should have already been done.

Now I see you complaining about the process without giving us what error your getting so how are we suppose to help you here?

Obviously, you didn't quite assimilate my post or you would have seen the error posted in there. Sure, you never have any issue upgrading the app. Its always the user that's doign something wrong, even when I have all your products and I have been running them for many years (5yrs!). Its me.

I have restored my system to 4.86. Had enough frustrations for one day (imagine the wasted hours!). When I can find more hours of my life to throw down the drain, I will try again and report the process here. Shame there isn't any other solid vb friendly gallery product to run to for now...

Well thats the only thing I see close to an error but its not a true error. You might want to turn on debug in global options so you can post your true error for assistance.

Just run through all upgrades ONCE from the version you last had and see where you stand. If you stop just get frustrated without moving on sure your going to see errors because you have not ran all the required upgrades
