Cant change permissions using VB forum db for users.

Hi

I'm a older registered member trying to Resetup Photopost 5.1 on my website after having run it a long time ago. Ive set it up for future VB3 integration by using the same VBfourms DB for the Gallery DB with it having the Gallery_ prefix for its tables and the forum tables a forum_ prefix. I've also set it up to use VBforums for the users. I believe my permissons and paths are setup correctly too.

Everthing seems to work so far accept I cant seem to change any user permissions. When I try to upload a picture as the admin it tells me I dont have permission. When I try to modify the usergroups in photopost and save them they dont get saved. I'm thinking it's looking back to the vbforum permissions but that dont seem to be it either because as Admin I have All Permissions So therefore I should beable to change permission and upload photos in photopost. I'm running VbForums 3.6.4 and PhotoPost 5.1

Here's a update. I just setup photopost using the stand alone option and using the photpost db for the users and I Still Cant Change any user permissions Nor add another user group. I've double checked all permissions and those seem to be right. This tells me the problem isnt in VB or the connnection to it but photopost itself. Please help....

Photopost 5.1 does not work with vbulletin 3.6 series. Only 5.21 and above will work with your vb so you need to renew your members area and download the 5.62

Ok, that would make sense except for one thing. I setup 5.1 as a stand alone install using its own database and not looking to my VBulletin at all and I still could not change any permissions in the Admin area Nor could I add any user groups. 5.1 setup as stand alone should work fine right but for me It didnt. Very Strange

I removed 5.1 and installed 4.8.6 and it works as smooth as butter. 4.8.6 works for me weather I set it up as stand alone or I intergate it into my VBuletin database. Once I had 4.8.6 setup and working correctly I tried to upgrade to 5.1. The Upgrade went fine but I then had the problem back of not being able to change any access rights.

So it looks like I'm stuck with 4.8.6 for the moment. I'd like to upgrade but I'm very hesitant cause under the circumstances I'm not sure that would resolve my issue and if I spent the money and it didnt it would just be a waste.

Finally and this may be because its older versions but when I flip the switch to use VB templetes I get a error message pointing to the header_inc.php file in photopost. Seems its referencing a VBulletin file in the includes directory called something like readthread or something to do with thread. I did a search for this file and discovered that the file hasnt been a part of VB since version 3.5. Are you aware of this and does the new version look for the same file too.

If I stick with 4.8.6 will it hurt it if it cant find that file. I simply commented the command line out and seems to work fine. Thanks for the help....

4.86 again will not in any way work with vb 3.6

That forum was not even in existence then and I would not run 4.86 as it is prone to security issues. You need to upgrade to 5.62

Well since you are the author/developer I cant really contest that and I dont know for sure. I will say that 4.8.6 seems to read my VB user database fine as its running from that now. I also have photopost sharing the same db as my vb with a different prefix and it seems to be fine too. Would I run into issues if I tried to fully implement the two I dont know for sure as I havent tried/done that yet.

I've been a owner of photopost for a long time and I have bought the upgrade license once already for sure and possible twice. I dont remember how many times Ive upgraded the license. Also I dont have any real issues with spending the money to upgrade as I would like the latest & greatest version.

My concern is that I spend the money to upgrade to the newest version. I Install it and I have the same issue of not being able to change user permissions. If I buy a new license and this happens again then what. Will you refund my money or set it up for me for free. And what happens if the issue is something outside of photopost like my provider or the way they have Mysql setup and we just cant get the newest version of photopost to work.

Bottom line is I dont want to spend the money for a new license Unless I know For Sure it will work for me or you give me some sort of gurantee that you will refund my money or configure it for me if I run into issues. I'm not a total newbie when it comes to installing scripts but then again I'm no php guru either. Let me know if your willing to work with me this issue. Links to my site are below. thanks.....

4.86 just flat out will not work. It will not read or process the vb3 users cookie and assign permissions for anything. Your vb3 navbar may say your logged in but Photopost will not. These vb versions where not even in existence when Photopost 4.8 series was around which was 2.5 to 3 years ago.

An members area renewal is 39.00. Tthere is nothing more we can do here in a support manner for you if your running vb 3.6 and photopost 4.86 other that state you need to upgrade your Photopost to one that supports vb 3.5/3.6 series.

There are many sites you can see in this page running vb 3.5/3.6 and Photopost so you know it works. I myself run vb3 as well as this programs author which is Michael.

Not trying to give you a hard time And it's Your program but I think your above statements are wrong to some extent. below is a link to 2 screen shots. the First is a screen shot of my 3.6.4 user groups. You will notice I have created a group called Photopost user. the second is a screen shot of the 4.8.6 photopost usergroups. If you will Look you will see that I created a group in VB called photopost users and this group transfered over Fine the usergroups in photopost.

I'm not saying that there might not be issues with 4.8.6 and vb 3.6.4 but you are wrong they wont work together AT ALL. the pictures Prove it and Yes the cookies and permissions work fine.

You Still havent answered my question yet. If I spend 40 bucks to upgrade which you Say will fix my issues what will you do for me if it Doesnt. I'm Not going to spend 40 bucks to upgrade Your program without Your word you will stand by Your Statment of it "That it will fix the user permission errors I had with 5.1 and vb 3.6.4"...

You can not do anything cause no permissions can not be assigned cause the two versions you have are not compatible. The proof is in your statements that permissions are not assigned. Therefore as I have stated you need to upgrade to a version of the program that is going to work with vb 3.5/3.6 series. Photopost 5.62 works fine with vb 3.64

Have you even tried the two together. Ive worked with photopost 4.8.6 and vb 3.6.4 for about 3 days now and Everything I have tried has Worked Including changing permissions, uploading, moving, and/or deleting pictures, Creating groups, catagories, etc. etc. If there any glitches I havent found one yet.

Also as I stated I'm no php guru But Ive worked in the IT field for the past 10years and have run my website for 3 years and a bbs for 5 years before that. So I'm No Newbie and Know how to troubleshoot issues.

Forget photopost 4.8.6 And VB 3.6.4 for a minute. My original question to you was why couldnt I set permissions with photopost v5.1 and Vb v3.6.4.
Your reply to me was 5.1 doesnt work with vb 3.6.4 and I need to upgrade.

I then asked you Why I couldnt change Any permissions Even when I had photopost 5.1 setup as a Stand Alone Application running within it's Own Database with No Connection at all to Vbulletin. I have yet to hear your answer on that.

Running by itself photopost 5.1 should work fine right. It doesnt. Is it my configuration or my provider I dont know But I cant add groups or change permissions with 5.1 weather I'm running it stand alone or with Vbulletin.

So now All's I hear from you is to spend an additional 40 bucks and upgrade to the newest version without any gurantee from you that I wont have permission issues Or would you refund my money or help me with the config files if I do. I'm sure it works fine on other servers, But I'm worried about Only My Server.

In the few years I have Owned photopost I have spent close to or over 200 dollars on your program and all's you can say is Spend More Money to upgrade to the newest version without any gurantees from you I wont have the same issues I had with photopost 5.1. Not a very good sales tactic. makes it sound like your more interested in the 40 bucks and making a sale then actually Helping a long time user of photopost.

Unless you can gurantee me that I wont have permission issues with the newest version Or if I do you will refund the money or help me with getting it to work it's a dead horse. And Now back to 4.8.6

5.1 works fine as a standalone and there are no permissions issues we have ever heard of running as a standalone. Nothing has changed on that end that we know of in many versions except adding more permissions to the usergroup table as time has went on with newer versions. You stated here more in depth what permissions your talking about when installing as a 5.1 standalone for me to respond further here. Now with that said that software is over 2 years old and we no longer offer that since each new version replaces the previous. You thread here is you have installed with 5.1 and can not get it to work with vb3 and then you say you you got 4.86 to work with vb 3.6. Thats fine if you say so but from a company standpoint and my personal knowledge we know how it works I can clearly say it does not work with vb 3.5 or 3.6. You can choose to believe me or not there but I can guarantee that since we had to redo our entire integration with vb3 when 3.5 came out and we made version 5.21 compatible with that version of vbulletin. All other versions will not work. Everyone who has had earlier versions and upgrades to vb 3.5 or 3.6 has had to upgrade.

Version 4.86 as well has some serious security issues and you will not want to run it and need to upgrade. Maybe 4.86 will work for you without using vb3 integration who knows I dont know anyone who runs it like that. Have you tried turning on the vb3 integration I bet it wont work will it. From a support perspective all we can tell you to do is upgrade.

Ok, look No more talk about 4.8.6. You say it wont work with vb 3.6.4 and I'm saying it works for Me and have sent you links to my site to prove it. You say Patato and I say Potato.

As far as 5.1 goes I first tried to set it up under vb 3.6.4 using the vb database and could not change Any User Permissions on the photopost side. I could change the switch from no to yes BUT when I tried to Save the settings nothing happened. The screen just refreshed. You stated 5.1 didnt work with vb 3.6.4 so I took that at face value.

I then tried to install 5.1 as a Stand Alone app running on it's own database thinking that would fix it. I got the Same Thing, I could change but not save Any User Permissions. I also found out I could not create a new group either. When I click this link the screen just refreshes back to the user groups screen.

ALL Other Options/Switches Seem to Work Fine. It's just User Permissions.

I believe 5.1 should work Stand Alone but for me it doesnt. I dont know if it's in the config files, or the way my provider runs or configuers linux, php, mysql, apache. Take your pick where the issue might be. I just dont know.

In fact I just setup a brand new Stand Alone install of 5.1 on a brand new database and I still have the Same Issue. I'm going to PM you the admin account info. Check it out. See if you can change any of the user permissions, I cant.

If you can figure it out I will Gladly Upgrade But it's Senseless to upgrade when my gut says I will have the same issue. See's your PM's........

There are no permission issues with 5.62 and I suggest you upgrade as I have suggested in every last post as there is no other recourse for you here. If by chance you have a bug in 5.1 from many years ago I am going to again suggest you upgrade.

Ok man, I see I'm not going to get anywhere Untill I spend 40 more bucks to upgrade my license and get the latest version. I have went ahead and payed the money and now just waiting for it to be approved and my license upgraded so I can download the newest version.

I will install it asap. Sure hope your right because if I still cant change User permissions under 5.6.2 like I Cant under 5.1 I'm goona be just a little ticked and I will also be out 40 bucks But I guess we will find out.

Did you ever get a chance to try my 5.1 install. If you did I'm sure you saw you cant change user permissions and everything in the config files looks right. I will let you know what I find out. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Ok I wanted to give you a heads up. I downloaded the latest version of photopost and did a quick Stand Alone Install on a new Database.

I havent worked with it to much Yet But I can at least change user permissions now. Finally...

Hopefully there will be no issues when I reset it up intergrated with my VB 3.6.2 installation and vb database But I will let you know.

Didnt mean to give you a hard time guy But I had this picture in my head that I would spend 40 bucks to upgrade my license, Have the Same freaking user permission problems and then have you guys tell me Oh, the issue must be caused by your provider, sorry we cant help and you will have to call them. Thankfully it looks like maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I'm sure I will have lots of config/custom questions in the future but for now we seem to be good. Thanks again, take care, and talk to you later....
