Issue with new uploads on thumbnails and photos

I recently purchased and installed photopost pro and have fixed about 98% of my issues myself, either by trial and error or by searching the forums. However, one problem is persistent, regardless of what I do.

The issue is that any new photos that have been uploaded will not display or create a thumbnail unless I go to the directory and re-chmod the data directory 777 (and its subs) each and every time. Currently all photos and thumbnails display as I've recently chmodded the data directory (again).

My stats:
PHP: 5.1.2-1+b1 / MySQL: 5.0.20
Linux + Apache v2.0.54 (cgi-fcgi) under my control when I am at work
Location of gallery: http://www.christianboards.org/gallery/

I will add (and I don't know if this is pertinent) that my regular images [avatars/profile pics] are stored in the database as I don't have an upload_temp_dir assigned yet.

Once I re-chmod the directory/ies, all is good, but I do not think I should have to do it each and every time someone uploads a photo. Is there a way to store images in the database [as with regular vbulletin options]? How do I get around having to re-chmod the directory/ies each and every time?

I can not tell you anything here unless you have some weird server thing going on. When we create directories when you create a category or on install once you set permissions to 777 at every level they should be set permanently. If your server is knocking permissions off directories you have already set permissions on you may want to contact your host as this should never happen on a proper setup server.

The weird thing is that when I check the permissions, they are set to 777 at every level. Only new[ly uploaded] photos do not retain this setting - I will investigate this.

What about the other question in regards to moving the storage location to the database? Is this an option or [if not] could it be a future one?

Edit: One thing I have found out is that a new image uploaded will set the image as 666 and the thumbnail as 600. Obviously, if I change these to 777, then the thumbnail displays.

Okay you need to contact your host as the thumbnail should be set to 644 or 666. Your host has something that is setting that file to 600 which is your whole issue. I know of one host who does this and they need to go in and correct there server.

I was actually looking into a umask solution this morning - on a whim I came back here (I have yet to receive email notifications of responses even though I've set it here.) I will have to probably go into the server and first check the umask settings
Code:

and then adjust them accordingly.

Well no one ever told me what the server issue is only that there host fixed the issue. It is a permissions issue but what the host does to fix it I can not say.

From what we found out, the server is setting files at 755 (with a umask of 022). However when a photo is uploaded the photo is being set at 666 and the thumbnail at 600, 644 is needed for displaying thumbnail. My concern now is that it might be an issue with GD rather than the server. Although I am using GD2, its not to say that it works properly. I am still looking into this.

It is a server issue not GD2 I would assume. 644 or 666 is fine for the files however the thumbnail 600 is not and is why the file can not be read on your pages. It is a permissions issue. I am not a server guy here which is why I can not really saw anything to help. In the very few instances of this like 2 or 3 that this has happened the people got there host to fix it very fast and I asked what the issue was so I could pass it along to future people but no one every responded to me.
