Install Error - mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]:

Chuck,

I'm getting this error message upon install. I have checked my config.php about 50 times. I have tried every possible combination of paths to my photopost install. I have deleted and reinstalled the dbase a number of times. What the heck am I missing here?

Thx

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'aplaceto_photopo'@'localhost' (using password: YES) in /home/aplaceto/public_html/photopost/install.php on line 548
I cannot connect to the PhotoPost MySQL server. [host:$host][mysql_user:$mysql_user][mysql_password:$mysql_password]. Check your config-inc.php for the correct settings and rerun.

I think Chuck just caught a plane to go on vacation. When you created the database and assigned aplaceto_photopo to be the user of that database, did you also give that user the correct permissions?

Yes - full access to that dbase. When I did the vbulletin install, everything went just fine. I used a different dbase and user ID and everything is working perfect. One thing that is a little confusing to me is the actual path to the installation:

The full path is /home/aplaceto/public_html/photopost
however, when I ftp into the domain, the path is only /public_html/photopost

I've tried the path both ways.

What permissions need to be given to config.php and config-inc.php? I've tried everything I think - 666, 777, etc...

You need to use the path as the server sees it; not as you necessarily see it (ftp can chroot to make it look different). I suspect the /home path is the correct one.

666 will work for permissions to allow for update via the admin panel.

Mike - I've tried the /home path and I'm still getting that error message.

Is there a problem with using the character $ in the password? I tried it with and w/out for the photopost dbase, however, my password to the vbulleting dbase does have a $.

Thx

Well, the permissions to the files would not be effecting your ability to connect to the database. Try removing the @loacalhost from the username that you use to connect - the problem is directly related to the username and password you are trying to connect with.
