data folder question with upgrade

I am upgrading from 4.8.2. The documentation says to upload ALL file besides the install.php. I see there is a "data" folder that should be uploaded. Wouldn't this just write over my old data folder on my server and erase everything? Should I not upload this folder? Thanks in advance.

don't I have to upload the config-inc and config-int since I edited them? Also, config-int doesn't even exist on my server now. Remember I'm upgrading from 4.8.2 and I have just recently upgraded my vB from 2.2.9 to 3.6.3

No you need to only upload config-int.php since that is new and exists. The upgrade instructions state NEVER to upload the config-inc.php file
