photopost-Upgrading from 4.8.5 A while back I attempted to upgrade our photopost pro to the current version. The upgrade crashed our server (ran out of space), it took a couple days to get all the pics back after the moving or renaming, I cant remember exactly what it was that the new version does. From what I can recall the new version changes the paths or names of the pics? Which would of course break every link posted in the forums. We have over a million threads, most of which have img tags to pics in the members galleries, gigs of pics, so many in fact that I couldnt get the stat page to load to give the exact ammount of data. My question is.....Is it at all possible to upgrade without breaking all the img tags in the forums? |
Hello no you would need to create some sort of mod rewrite on your server to fix those forum links. Our script and file structure works within our program and as such there is no way for us to do anything about links etc that people do outside our program code. |
is ver 4.3.8 compatible with vb3.5x? |
Hello Nope only Photopost 5.21 and above |
 Really? Why would you leave a large sector of your customers high and dry? |
I have no idea what you mean by that specifically however.... Your talking about a 3-4 year old or so version of the program where vbulletin 3.5 let alone 3.6 was not even around. To use vbulletin 3.5 or 3.6 you need to have current members access and simply download Photopost and upgrade your site. Photopost 5.21 or above is compatible with vb 3.5 since that was the version that was around when vbulletin 3.5 was officially released about 15 months ago. |
Yes it was a while back when 5x came out, I never got around to attempting the upgrade again because I could never find a solution to the link problem. What good would it do when it would destroy hunreds of thousands of picture tutorials? I check here every couple months for a solution but notta. Surley someone else has encountered this? You say there is nothing you can do about links outsite your program code, as if it has nothing to do with photopost. You give UBBCode: in the code on showphoto.php. Just yesterday you replied to someone asking how to post a img in their forums. Quote:

No matter whether we offer a link that a user can use somewhere else does not mean we support other products or parts of peoples sites. We changed our file structure which was a big need for our product going forward 2 years ago. That happens in products all the time. You may or may not choose to upgrade. |
