I would suggest you check per our install instructions you have set the data directories at every level to 777. I uploaded fine to the members gallery

Ok very strange if I choose Member Galaries it works ok
If I choose any of my catagories I get the error.

Can you test by using one of my cagatories?

There is no difference

If I choose my catagories, using GD I get this error:

Unable to read the format of file: /srv/vhosts/cookalbums.ca/photoalbum/data/504/medium/6309tabs.JPG


If I choose my catagories, using Imagemagik I get this error:

Error creating thumbnail! Error code: 1

Command:

"/usr/bin/mogrify" +profile "*" -size 100x78 -quality 70 -geometry 100x78 -unsharp 10 '/srv/vhosts/cookalbums.ca/photoalbum/data/504/thumbs/6309tabs.JPG'

If I choose Member Catagories it works, it is only fails and gives the above errors if I choose my catagories that I created.

Do the mini medium and thumbs folders exist under 504?

As you can see 504 has 777 so it should be able to make any files/folders it wants:

I but where permissions right when they where created. ore than likelu permissions where not right and the cats where not created

Just create the directories and make sure they are 777

I removed my catagories, and then deleted all the folders in data except for 1, 2, 500 I then recreated my catagory and I see now there is a new folder called 505 with 777 permissions and inside is :

I was able to upload a photo to this catagories without error.

Is it required for all of data to be 777 and owned by wwwrun user?
Seems like a huge security problem that someone could exploit

Is there a way to tighten security once my photos are all uploaded?

This should explain it in detail

For most people and servers it needs to be 777 if you own your own server you could try this
