| OK ... I give!!!
I am trying to upgrade a working 5.02 to 5.31 stand alone PP, and everything seems to be good, except that I cannot login at all, neither as a user or as admin. The login process simply takes me back to the main page logged out, even though it states that login was successful.
I have cleared all cookies, cache and temp files, and nothing seems to work, whether I use IE or Firefox. I've re-uploaded all files, I've gone back to 5.02 twice, and upgraded again, only to get the same results each time. I'm now at a complete loss.

Still cannot login as Admin or User, but can register, and everything else appears normal so far. Obviously can't tell about uploading, etc.
Can I PM the link info to you?

| Back to Square one!
Well ... went back to 5.02 and started all over again ... trying to upgrade to 5.5 on my private test site, and still no joy!
I still get the same results ... cannot login with any browser as either a user or an admin. The login says "successful" , however, it reverts back to the logged-out screen in all cases. Using Firefox, Netscape, and IE. All un-registered functions seem to work properly, including registering a new user, but I don't know about registered stuff, as I can't get in to check any of those functions.
The only consistent thing in all this is that no matter whether I try to upgrade from 5.02 to 5.21 or 5.3+ or 5.5 ... the first upgrade screen gives me an "unable to unlink" error for 4 redundant admin files. Outside of that I get one duplicate error, and that is it.
I love PhotoPost, but this is starting to get annoying. I have tried and failed to go from 5.02 to 5.21, to 5.3, to 5.31, and now 5.5 ... What am I doing wrong? Michael? Chuck? Anyone????
Is there a way to get a copy of the versions between 5.02 and 5.21? Maybe if I step up through it will work then?
Hoping to get this fixed soon ...
John

| Attempt # ???
I've just reset everything, and set the entire photopost folder and subs to 777 for this attempt. Now I get the following error while attempting to do the 5.0 to 5.1 upgrade: "We're sorry, but the system experienced an unrecoverable error. Please try again later."
The other errors about the unlinking have disappeared to be replaced by this. Does this help narrow it down?

| Success at last!!!!
I have finally managed to upgrade my live site from 5.02 to 5.5, and so far without a hitch. With Chucks' help and some luck I managed to get everything upgraded, except that the live site started thinking it was running under VB (never has). Obviously that wasn't doing me any good as it would crash before I could get in to turn whatever it was off. In my investigation of this, I discovered that my config-inc file was a version 4.8 running my 5.02 installation. The test site was running an editted version 5.02 file, and that site (once I got past the database error issues, and the cookie prefix being set) upgraded perfectly using a copy of my live database. Since the test site was also using all of the live 5.02 files except for the config-inc ... I figured it had to do with that. I swapped out the files, editted the 5.02 to reflect my live site ... and voila! I am up and running 5.5 ...
Chuck ... does that make ANY sense to you at all???? I tried all other suggestions I could find after getting past the database, and cookie issues. Using the same data, and 5.02 files (except for the config-inc), the test site upgraded properly, but the live one thought it had to look for VB. I replace the config-inc with a version 5.02 and everything went smooth as silk!

Anyways ... thanks Chuck for your help, and patience !!!!

I would simply think your got yourself config files crossed or something. If your doing upgrades you need to follow the upgrade docs exactly and can never ever replace config files etc.
