SQL errors being emailed after upgrade to 5.3

I upgraded to 5.3 about a week ago and every couple of days I get hundreds of emailed SQL errors. The site itself seems to be working properly. Example email below:

It looks like it thinks the photo file name is a table??? Any thoughts? Thanks!

in showmembers.php this line here encapsulate the $cat variable like so

Thanks. I'll post back in a day or so to verify the emails have stopped.

So just out of curiosity, why is that change needed? Is it because of the mySQL version or something?

because of a spider or bot passing off $cat as something it is not.
