Disappearing directory

I had php memory issues so I switched from GD to ImageMagick and some pics were uploaded successfully after this.

Today one of my members tried to upload some pictures, but had errors returned which turned out to be because the "uploads" directory had disappeared.

I've reinstated it and can upload pics - but why did this happen? How do I stop it happening again?

Well if the uploads directory does not exist we create it.

I would suggest you double check your uploads directory is 777 so that the script is able to create user subdirectories

This would be the issue that I see if it was not created on upload. You might also want to check in php settings that your server host has not turned safe mode on the server.

php settings were the same, the uploads file was there and functioning properly one day, then for no apparent reason it disappeared and so no-one could upload any new pics.

I re-instated it and it's working fine again as it was before, but now I have an added task of checking it doesn't disappear for no reason again - or at least re-uploading if it does. It's getting embarassing telling my users that the board works fine now and then getting emails with the latest error message when they can't submit any pics.

Well somehow it would have had to have been deleted but at least you now know the cause.
