Exclamation Huge serverload upon upload

Fresh install, integrated with vB 3.5.2.

When uploading images the server hits the roof and ends up cutting the string to stop system shutdown.

Never had any serverprobs before.

I tried uploading both a .gif file (3kb) and a .jpg file (2kb), same result.

I have several clients on this server so can't afford instability.

I use imagemagic, no watermarking or other protection.

You get server load out the roof from uploading a 3kb image?

I have never heard of such a thing and some server specs might help here. As well as a url to your install test user login and a link to your php settings.

Solved the problem by using GD2 instead of ImageMagic, but GD2 does not support GIF (as I understand) and that makes this script useless for us. Our board is about pixelgraphics and all in GIF format

Is there any way to set GD2 to accept GIF?

GD2 version 2.028 and above accepts gif images.

Otherwise I would suggest you recompile Imagemagick and try it again.

Tried going back to ImageMagic and managed to upload 1 image.
Went back to try again and this time the server stalled.
Another test and same thing.

Can anybody help?

Have you recompiled ImageMagick per the instructions I linked?

There is obviously an error in your Imagemagick if your server is dieing here.

Can I still try compiling ImageMagic locally (my webhotel) even though I have a version running serverside (that I have no access to)?

You can use the non-root instructions to compile a version in your webroot. It would only do jpg gif and bmp images though.

If you have root access to the server you can compile one to replace the serverside one.

I get permission denied on the last bit:

./configure CFLAGS=-O2 --prefix=/home/xxx/xxx/imagemagick --without-perl --disable-static --enable-shared --with-modules --without-magick_plus_plus --without-bzlib --without-dps --without-fpx --without-hdf --without-lcms --without-jbig --without-png --without-tiff

You created a directory in your webroot and created all the needed directories

You installed jpeg no problem?

What was the exact error?
