Migrating from UBBThreads to vB questions

I'm migrating a photopost install on UBBThreads. It is UBBThreads 6.4.1 running Photopost 4.6.6.

I'm migrating all the forum data from this to vB 3.5.3 running the latest Photopost version.

I want to avoid messing with upgrading the old version of Photopost on UBB if I can avoid it.

What is the proper order and process for me to import things using Impex?

1. Import UBBThreads data
2 Delete the Import ID's
3. Import existing Photopost data to into new vB running latest Photopost?
4. Run the Photopost UserID util thing
5. Delete the Import ID's

Does all this sound correct? Any pointers?

Thanks.
Scott

1. Import UBBThreads data
2. UPDATE EXISTING PHOTOPOST and realign the settings and usergroup table entries to integrate with vb3. There are several threads here on the exact steps just do a search.
4. Run the reassign UserID util thing in the import forum only after upgrading Photopost to the latest version

You should be done.

I've read through all the threads I can find on the subject. Here's my concern. We have a functioning site right now under UBB with old Photopost.

I need to be able to do test migrations and work out the details without affecting the existing site. We have a complicated migration here as it involves merging two UBB forum databases one of which has Photopost into a single vB forum database, this is why it takes a lot of testing...without affecting the running system.

If I understand all your information correctly, I have to upgrade Photopost on the live forums, then to migrate point the current Photopost install from UBB to vB....but prohibits me from doing any testing at all without bringing down the running site.

Am I missing something here?

Well you need to decide what you want to do.

Photopost can not use two different integrations. If you want to switch Photopost to use vb3 then you need to take the steps noted in many support threads here to import your ubbthreads forums to vb3 and then realign Photopost to use vb3. You then need to run an external script to realign the userid's as noted since the impex importer of vb3 will change your users userid's on import to vb3.

Well I know what I want to do

I have created copies of the MySQL databases that I use as scratch databases to import from without affecting the live site.

What I am trying to accomplish here is to have two seperate installs of Photopost running for the moment. One with our live site (UBBThreads) using the old version of Photopost. The other running the new version of Photopost integrated with vB and test importing the data from the old system to the new system.

Is this not possible? Surely other people run duplicate installs for testing and Migration before just pulling the trigger on the gun with no testing first and bringing down their live site.

You may run a test install but it can not be accessible through the internet.

Yes, this is what I'm trying to do as we have an active site and it is a very complicated upgrade. Only one site will be accessible through the internet.

Given this, can we re-visit the first post on how to properly migrate the data between two different installs?

Thanks!
