Photo uploading issues

When users, including me logged in as admin, try and upload a photo the system says it is processing the image list, then it says the image was uploaded successfully. But the image does not upload or show up in the gallery. Safe mode is turned off.

Thanks for any help!

Did you ever get an answer from your host why file uploads are being dropped on your site on there server?

Your able to bypass the file upload and use admin bulkupload utility fine. I know this was the last discussion we had with you on this topic and have not heard anything back.

bajarider February 17th, 2006 11:11 AM

They said that they updated the permissions for the gallery and forums directories.

I emailed them today letting them know that it seemed to fix the problem temporarily, but as of yesterday the uploads stopped working again.

I'll try and call them later today and see what they say.

I use Hostway for hosting if anyone has had the same experience with them.

Try yourself deleting all directories under uploads and make sure uploads and data are 777 permissions and try uploading but there is definately a larger issue at play here. If the script can process a file that is put by hand into the uploads directory then your server is not allowing the file to be uploaded in the first place by the upload process this is an issue you host needs to fix.

Here's Hostway's support reply:

There does not seem to be a problem with your directories as much as it
may be the program that you are using to try and access your with via
FTP. Does it have a passive setting that you can enable as you upload?
This seems to be a connection error issue and not a permissions issue.
We were able to upload to the directories using our FTP program and
SmartFTP as well. We appreciate your patience.

I replied and tried to explain the situation in more detail that it is not an ftp issue.

We'll see what they say.

I was getting read to say they must be knipping the old whiskey? ;) How do you go putting in a support issue on the fact http file uploads drop to them replying about ftp.

bajarider February 17th, 2006 05:50 PM

OK- the latest reply from Hostway.

We have corrected the settings for you. The folders both have 777
permissions and safe mode is off correctly. The upload mechanism will work
correctly now. We appreciate your patience.

Hopefully this is it!

I know I'm ready to nip on some whisky!

bajarider February 17th, 2006 05:52 PM

Still doesn't work for me. Any luck when you try?

bajarider February 20th, 2006 09:55 AM

Chuck, It still does not work. Any ideas?

Chuck S February 20th, 2006 10:15 AM

What does your host say about there server dropping file uploads?

The issue is simple. You can FTP a file to your uploads directory and it processes fine. If you try to HTTP upload a file to the uploads directory to process your server is dropping the file and not allowing the file upload hense there is nothing to process. There are no permissions errors and everything appears correct. This is happening at the server level. There interaction is needed here. Your gallery worked fine till they did something on the server on the data meantioned when things stopped working.

bajarider February 21st, 2006 09:38 AM

Here's what the host says:

You will need to create a folder in either your www folder or home
directory and set it as the place where your sessions are saved. You will
have to do this to resolve this situation so that you can upload the
files as they take up space in the tmp folder that PHP writes sessions to
by default. You make this change and your pictures will show up
correctly.

Chuck S February 21st, 2006 09:43 AM

Okay well try making a tmp folder in your webroot and see if uploads work ;) You on yahoo?

bajarider February 21st, 2006 09:44 AM

Yes. jeffhomer1

There is an empty folder named tmp that is in the root.

Now I get an error:

Error creating thumbnail! Error code: 1

Command:

"/usr/local/bin/mogrify" +profile "*" -size 100x75 -quality 70 -geometry 100x75 -unsharp 10 '/www/meyersmanx/gallery/data/522/thumbs/sunset2.jpg'

Chuck S February 21st, 2006 10:01 AM

Yep so you all deleted the tmp directory in your webroot. It all works now.

bajarider February 21st, 2006 10:03 AM

Thank You!!!!

bajarider March 2nd, 2006 01:25 PM

Well. It worked for a while. Now as of Monday photos are not uploading again. The tmp folder is still in the root. Nothing has changed.

When uploading an attachment to a post I get a message that says "attachment partially uploaded".

When uploading to the image gallery, it says it successfully uploaded but the image does not upload.

Any thoughts?

Chuck S March 2nd, 2006 02:08 PM

Contact your host and see if they have changed anything. Yahoo does lock down half the functions of PHP. Make sure they did not turn on safe mode. Make sure the tmp directory is set to 777

bajarider March 2nd, 2006 05:26 PM

I checked the tmp directory with WSFTP Pro and it was and is 777.

I also checked and Safe Mode is still off.

Chuck S March 2nd, 2006 06:24 PM

Has your host said anything about this yet?

Your upload is being dropped again which means this is server related not software related.
