Upgrading from 4.86 stops on a white page

I'm trying to do my upgrade from 4.86 to 5.21.

I've uploaded all the files, except the 2 config files, and the 4.86 upgrade stops on step 1. I have added the code I found in the thread on the link below, but I still get the blank page

4.86 Upgrade Fails, stops on blank page

Please help!

I would suggest you download 5.3 upload everything and lets continue and see if you get this error.

Thanks, that's what I was "afraid" of LOL

I'll need to buy the program again, because my lisence just expired before the newest version was released. So that will have to wait until tomorrow.

I just uploaded all my old files again, so the gallery is open for now

You dont need to purchase a new license. Just members access renewal for $39.00

We can work with your old files but I would need to see what your working with here.

Oh that's great! I thought I needed to buy the program again. I'll do that then and let you know how it goes with the new files. Thank you!

I uploaded all the files from the newest download, and the same thing happened again... the upgrade from 4.85/86 stops on step one on a white page. There's no error message this time, either - just the blank page.

Any ideas what could be causing this? I'm assuming there's nothing wrong with the upgrade.php script?...

The upgrade script works just fine that I am aware of. I just did two 4.7 upgrades earlier this week.

Go ahead and send ftp and admin logins url etc

I know it's a Saturday and all and I don't want to bother you, so should I just upload my old files again and open the gallery, and then try again over the weekend?

Yep what you might want to do is this.

Get this gallery back in working order using the old files.

Make a duplicate install if you have the room on your site. Replicate your database etc and files make sure to change to the new database name in the config. Edit the new database settings table to point to the new server paths and urls.

You can then drop us a line with the new info that way we can work on this without disturbing your present install. This is going to take awhile to figure out why the minute your script calls pp-inc.php it fails. This is something no other install has ever had.

Thanks for your help again! I will make a second install with my original version (4.86) and give you all the info. I can just give the database prefixes another name than pp, right? Like pp2?

Thanks again!

EXACTLY yes that would work

Key here is to be separate so the main gallery is operational and we can test and see what is so unique about your system that it will not upgrade. Basically from what I saw is everytime pp-inc.php is called it stops dead.

I installed the test gallery and you're not gonna believe this, but it let me upgrade that one LOL. I think I've figured out what was wrong, though. I had the confic-inc file from my regular gallery open to see my DB settings (username, password etc) when I installed the testgallery, and I noticed that the path to the gallery came up different in the new install than in the regular one. The path in the new install says /data/www/vsite303/web/testgalleri while the path to the regular gallery says /www/0/3/vsite303/web/galleri

I was having server problems around Christmas and I think I must have been moved around a bit. One day the users couldn't upload pics, and I told my host. They were working on some other issues on my server at the same time, and all the other paths have been altered, except the path to the installation. So that's probably why it's been messed up, right?

The upgrade on the test install went well except for one thing - the admin-index.php comes up as white, but with the grey border that separates the menu from the page. I changed the stylesheet to one of the included ones in phpmyadmin, in case my self-made stylesheet didn't work with the newest version, but it's still the same. Do you know how I can fix this? I need to rebuild the thumbnail of the pic I uploaded as a test. Now I'll know what I need to do before I upgrade the regular gallery LOL

The testgallery is located at http://www.scrapbookexpress.no/testgalleri/ and has the same admin info that I PMed you yesterday.

Thanks again for your help!

I looked at the admin files in the test gallery - is it the pp-inc.php file that is messing me up again? I see that's it's required in admin-inc.php, which is required in admin-index.php. But this is the same in v 4.86 right? And my admin works perfectly fine there.

I deleted all the files that are no longer used by the newest version and uploaded the files from v 5.3 again. And I've checked the permissions, but it still only comes up with a white page on admin-index.php (but with the grey bar that separates the menu from the page). Also, the header and footer I uploaded (that are the same as the ones in my regular gallery) aren't being displayed, if that can have something to do with it. Still no error message, either. That's where I'm at

Well set aside your secondary install for a sec

Do a clean install to test things out with a fresh database remember to make sure not to overwrite any other installs. I bet it installs fine.

I guess what we need to do is find a way for your server to echo out the error. Traditional ways are not working so we can not see what the issue is but there is either an upgrade that is not ran or corruption.

Thanks Chuck! I will delete the test gallery and the database table, and install a brand new test one (new foldername and all). I'll use my v 4.86 and upgrade to 5.3 and see what happens

OK, I did a brand new install with 4.86 and upgraded to 5.3 (new name and new DB prefixes). Uploading pics works fine, and the 2 pics I uploaded before the upgrade display nicely after the upgrade. But I still get the white page when I try to get into admin. I've included a pic (I hope - if I got it right LOL) so you can see what it looks like. White, but with the bar in the middle, so it's trying to do something. Thanks again for your help, Chuck. I really appreciate it! Can't wait to get this right so I can do my real upgrade!...

The new install is located at http://www.scrapbookexpress.no/test/index.php
