| Upgrading...
I'm going to try upgrading from 4.8 to the newest version. Is it possible to copy the db, and put the new photopost in a different location to test? Or does it try to restructure your folder and all the content? I want to give this a dry run before I upgrade and don't want to stop the current site from working while I test the new one.

well it does restructure the data directory on upgrade yes
Is best to just upgrade. Just take a backup of your database beforehand you should be fine

The site is heavily modified... my medium size images are displayed with a seperate processor (before you offered that) - large images are sent as downloads, not displayed- and tally in diff tables on the db and are only allowed if the user has credits....
it won't be easy.
on top of that... the current configuration, I used a dl'd version of VB3.5 to test with, and now that i've bought that license... i can't get the integration to work right- because i dont have the license number for the config in vb- there isn't one.

Only our current 5.2 is compatible with vb3.5 and the vb license number is on the top of every vb file. If it is not there then this vb is a warez copy.
You must use our latest unmodified code and upgrade to be integrated with vb3.5 and you must have the proper vb license number entered for the integration to work

ya, it was a warez copy, but they dont really let you try it before you buy it.... If it didn't work - i wasnt going to use it and didnt want to be out the $'s... oh well, i'll figure that out later.
dont think i'll be able to upgrade on that site, given the files needing to be moved - they amount to about 67gb+ so... I can't just move them to another location very easily.

Sorry but your talking about a warez copy of vbulletin and a heavily hacked photopost.
Only thing I can tell you is to purchase a vbulletin copy and upgrade your photopost

uhm. i already said that had purchased vbulletin- the initial was just to test. If I copy all of the files over, is that going to solve the license issue? or is it going to be an issue in the db that would need to be corrected?
Upgrading photopost seems unlikely at this time, given the size of the site's data folder, and that i can't keep one site in production while testing the upgrade on another (without copying the entire /data folder)

If you copy un warez vbulletin files over it will solve the issue of not authentication but ONLY 5.2 photopost is compatible with vb3.5 so you need to upgrade

im using 3.5 now... i just changed the way photopost authenticates in 4.8, it works fine now- but the cookie doesn't pass properly, and was one of the reasons i was looking to upgrade.
btw, your mailer link isn't working:

Do you help out in the "unsupported modifcations" forum? Or do you know anyone that would help for $'s integrate the watermark ? The script calling the images is pretty complex - both thumbs and med size images are protected...

Our program works fine. You need to run 5.2 that supports vb 3.5. From a support perspective this is all I can say
You can post in the mod forum and see if someone will help you though

the mailer link that you send out to notify of new updates isn't mailing the proper link
"Chuck S has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - Upgrading... - in the Installation & Upgrades forum of PhotoPost Community.
This thread is located at: Upgrading...
or in the members area: Upgrading...
Here is the message that has just been posted:"
That's all well and good, when i click on it it gives me an error page-
I'm not complaining about the software, my site is working fine - baring some upgrading i'd like to accomplish.
I was just pointing out the link was pulling "$bbuserinfo[username], you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:"
just FYI
