Upgrade from 4.1.3 to 5.21

Can I upgrade easily from 4.1.3 to 5.21? I had an old version I had downloaded some time ago (version 4.5). So I tried to do the 4.1.3 to 4.5 upgrade but it failed because it wound up deleting the useralbums table (bad, bad, bad!). (side note: If anyone knows a way around this so I can upgrade to even 4.5, let me know ASAP).

Anywho, my galleries have 13,000+ photos (8,000+ comments, etc.) so I'm wondering if I can just install a fresh copy of 5.21 and import like the photos table from the old db....

Anyone??? Help.

Hello upgrading to 5.2 is pretty easy provided your paths and permissions are set correctly on the install

Deleting the useralbums table is GOOD GOOD GOOD as it should do that.
Your albums are moved into the categories table with a cattype of a. In fact it says to import your useralbums click here.

But the useralbums didn't move to the categories table properly when I tried the upgrade from 4.1.3 to 4.5. I got all sorts of useralbum errors in the web pages when I tried to view the pages.

Here is the result of when I ran upgrade41.php I think it was called:
Quote:
Preparing to update 4.1 database...
Performing MySQL command: ALTER TABLE categories ADD cattype VARCHAR(4) DEFAULT 'c' NOT NULL ... Successful!
Performing MySQL command: UPDATE categories SET cattype='c' ... Successful!
Performing MySQL command: REPLACE INTO settings VALUES (130,'Select a theme for your website','theme','Choose from the available themes for your site layout','default',62,2) ... Successful!
Performing MySQL command: REPLACE INTO settings VALUES (131,'Show UBBCode on Photo page?','showubb','','no',16,6) ... Successful!
Performing MySQL command: REPLACE INTO settings VALUES (84,'PhotoPost Version','pversion','','4.5',53,0) ... Successful!
Performing MySQL command: REPLACE INTO settings VALUES (133,'Use Spider-friendly URLs?','spider','','no',17,6) ... Successful!

Looks like its fine. I surely dont see any errors there. You just need to go through and complete ALL THE UPGRADES.

Chuck, yes the upgrade41.php page shows the upgrade went fine. I get the error messages when I go to showphoto.php to view a photo (I forget the exact error right now).

So here's the deal. I tried to update to v5.

1. On the 4.1 upgrade step, it said OK and it upgraded the useralbums, so far so good.
2. I ran the 4.5 upgrade step, Good! continue!
3. I ran the 4.6 step fine. I chose next step
4. When I hit the 4.6.7 upgrade step, it all just hangs. I get a white/blank screen. There's nowhere to go from there????

So to come back to an earlier thought. Is there some way I can install a fresh copy of v5 and somehow import the photos and comments from my old db into the fresh new db? Since the upgrade path doesn't seem to work for me, I'm wondering if it would be easier in the long run to just install a fresh copy and import necessary tables/data.

I would suggest you redownload the build and upload the showphoto.php but aside from that you need to run through every import

I do not show an issue with the 4.67 upgrade here.

Chuck, do you guys retain copies of old PP releases? I realize you only want people to download the latest and greatest, but sometimes (like this) it would be handy to be able to grab an old version.... Just a thought.

Well I grabbed a fresh copy of 5.21 and the upgrade worked flawlessly. I saved each web page during the update process, in the end I went through 20 screens without a problem. Thanks Chuck, now my scripts are up-to-date and I can finally use spider-friendly URL's (something I've wanted for a long time).
