Safe Mode Problem

Two days ago a hacker used my server to perform a denial of service attack on another site. This was the third time that it has happened in the past year and my host has demanded that safe mode be active at all times to prevent this from happening again. They explained that safe mode will seal security holes that make my server vulnerable to "hackers".

The problem is that I can't get PhotoPost to work now... uploading new imatges and displaying thumbnails have both stopped working.

What is the solution?

Moving to a new server is the only answer I have.

Our requirements state safe mode needs to be off or the gallery to function and allow uploads.

Well, I am leasing the server.... and VERY happy with the admin so moving isn't an option.

I am curious.... phpbb still allows uploads of avatars with Safe Mode on... so obviously it IS possible to do it. What is the rational behind designing PhotoPost so that it won't work behind Safe Mode?

well if your uploading files to a directory that already exists and is 777 sure it will work with safe mode.

The problem is Photopost is a dynamic program meaning the script creates upload directories for a user if they dont exist on upload and in admin category directories when you add a cat etc

With safe mode none of this works which is the issue. If everything got upoaded to one directory then there would not be an issue
