Question Image Protection Questions

1. If the .htaccess are created properly, do we even need to mess with watermark.php hiding the image location? I mean if htaccess prevents hotlinking, do you still need watermark.php to hide the location? Does using watermark.php use more server resources than not using it?

2. I have a pretty fresh installed of 5.13 and am trying to setup my image protection. I want to allow my thumbnails to be hotlinkable to all sites, but my medium and fullsize images to not be hotlinkable on other sites. Can you give me examples of what the "data .htaccess" and the "fullsized .htaccess" and will I need to edit the "Storage Options" at all to make it so my gallery allows this?

I thought .htaccess was the all in one prevention of image stealing/hotlinking, is this not true?

Thank you!

Image Protection is not just about preventing hot linking; it's about denying access to view an image except to those authorized to do so. With hotlinking protection I can still view your images if I know the URL; with Image Protection enable you have to use our scripts to view the image every time.
