error message "not a valid JPEG file"

Today I installed PhotoPost for the first time, when I try to upload a test jpeg I get above

Warning: imagecreatefromjpeg(): '/home/mypath/fotos/data/502/IMG_3759.JPG' is not a valid JPEG file in /home/mypath/fotos/image-inc.php on line 84

and in the the box

Unable to create image [/home/mypath/fotos/data/502/IMG_3759.JPG].

My settings:
Linux, my own dedicated server, using GD, PHP 4.4.0, mySQL 4.0.24, all directories like data and uploads are chmoded 777 AND on my second try I have emptied the named directories to make sure there is no corrupted foto inside.

If you switch to imagemagic does it work. If you upload some other file does that one work?

Usually we are talking permissions here in that the file isnt copied to be read or the processor on the system does not have the proper components installed.
