Proper Cookie settings for PP 5.13 - no VB integration

Hi There, I have some users that can almost login successfully (they get that success message) but then once the page refreshes, they are still logged out.

I have played with one of the problems users browsers - adjust all the cookie settings, re-booted etc.. with no avail.

only select users seem to have this problem. I'm hoping it's a cookies issue and I can solve it. Could someone tell me:

1)What a users browser cookie settings should be optimally for PP
2)What my cookie settings should be set in the admin of PP - right now mine are:
Cookie Path: /
Cookie Prefix: BLANK
Cookie Domain: BLANK
SMF: BLANK

If these are the right settings - does anyone have any idea what this might be?

Thanks!
Christine

Your missing one of two things for a successful login

First off your vb cookie prefix is stored in the vb config file and by default is bb.

Second I would suggest that you set the cookie domain in both applications to .domain.com so users are logged in whether they visit your site at http://domain.com or http://www.domain.com

Third make sure the cookie path is / in both applications

Fourth in your Photopost config.inc.php file you must place the proper VB license number not customer license in that file where it states

$vblicense="12345678";

Ok - I'm confused - I only have one application - Photopost - and I have NO VB integration.

Do the above still apply?

Thanks,
Christine

Ok, so I'm happy my settings are correct - however, some of my users cannot log-in.
They get a 'login successful' message, but as soon as the page refreshes, they are no longer logged in.
I thought the problem would either be my cookie settings or perhaps their browser settings, but I was using a browser and adjust all the cookie setting and still no luck.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Christine

So - I was trying with a browser on one of the problematic computers. The browser setting was to allow cookies. In fact, I adjust the browser repeatedly to different cookie settings including allow all etc..(made sure to try re-booting, shutting down/re-starting ie etc.) and still had the problem. I then went and tested with different photopost galleries and those worked.
So I figured something must be wrong with the configuration of my gallery
.
As we've determined the settings above are correct, is there something else that could be wrong in my gallery congif that would cause this?

Why would my gallery not work and other photopost implementations be ok?
help! this is an odd one.

Thanks,
christine

Sorry not following here. You say your cookied in fine and then not at times.

Is this different computers here.

If users are allowed to login and they login correctly a computer is created. if one is not it is because the browser is not allowing it.

Sorry - my post does sound confusing.

I am able to reproduce the login problem on different computers. On these computers where I can reproduce the problem, the browsers are set to allow coookies.

So basically my question is: If my gallery is configured correctly and users browsers have the correct cookie settings - what else could be causing this problem?

Is there anymore information I can give you that would help?

Thanks,
Christine

Simply put as far as cookies as long as they are set identical as VB and the correct vb license is used the login will be integrated.

If you have things set to different subdomains I would suggest a cookie domain of .domain.com

Omegatron - I hate to belabor this but you keep mentioning VB and I dont have ANY.

I don't understand. I just have photopost. No subdomains, so VB no nothing. Just photopost. We seem to have come to an agreement that my settings are correct and if users browsers allow cookies I should be good to go. But in fact - I still have users complaining of the login problem.

Thanks,

Okay well lets see here your post meantioned VB in capitols but there i now see the no in small letters next to it

So this is an internal install

Okay your cookies are fine and as noted the if a person logs in and it says successful and they arent cookied in that means they are not allowing the cookie it looks like to me.

I went to your gallery registered an account and I login fine. Since cookies are set on a user's computer the issue usually means they are blocking cookies. If there was an issue with the software then no one would be logging in. The fact that I can register and login fine suggests those few users are blocking cookies.
