Time Stamp

For vB3 and PP5.13, if I want to use the time of the vB, I just fill in a "t" (without the quotes) in the GMT Offset box, correct?

That is what I have there, but the time is off from the vB3 by about 9 and a half hours. I can manually put in -8 in there, but I would like to have PP follow vB3.

I just did a quick test to fill in the box with -8 and did a test post. It is still quite a bit off. So what is going on with this time thing?

Thanks for the help.

You would need to put a negative or postive number in from GMT to match times

I tried both!

I am at GMT -8. So I entered -8 in the GMT Offset box. The time stamp is still way off. I entered "t" in the box to match the vB3 forum. It is off too (way off).

vB3 timing is fine (sync to server).

So what else can I do to make this work properly? Is there a related field that I need to change to make this work?

See with VB this is set the opposite of what someone thinks.

Remember with VB your time is set to GMT unlike other forums which simply use a offset from server time.

So to make your time work right when integrated with VB you need to add back the time from your server to GMT and then subtract or add from there

Example in VB my user offset is -5 for eastern time and my server is located in mountain time so to get things to display right in Photopost I set my GMT to 7

To see an example of what I mean I made a little script that uses our formatpptime function and coded this

vb offset is set tp -5 THIS IS THE VB TIMEFORMAT PULLED FROM VB

GMT is set to 7 so that time can be adjusted from my mountain server time back to GMT

http://www.reeftalk.com/time.php

If you click the link time will always be displayed in eastern time which is where I am located.

What you said was actually a bit confusing. What I did find out is that I must put the sign, + or -, in front of the offset number for PP to respond. I am at GMT -8 with daylight saving time. So, I put the offset to +8 to show the right time. Strange, but I am too tired to figure out why this is the case.

Sorry if its confusing lets try and make it clearer.

Every forum application except vb uses whats known as a timeoffset which adjusts the time from server time which means users can individually select an offset to show things in there own time

Now VB does it a bit different. They adjust before the get go all server time for posts to GMT and then the users offset is set to there timezone

Do not worry about your timezone as thats already set in your user offset. You need to add back in or subtract the time where ever your server is at to GMT. You do not put a + for positive numbers. I posted an example so you would not be confused.

My server is in mountain time US so I need to put 7 in the GMTOFFSET box in photopost. So your in California but that makes no nevermind as you need to know where your server is at. Most likely your going to be putting in a 7 or a 6 in that GMT offset box.

I think that I understand what you said now. You are saying that vB stamps all posts at GMT 0 (London time). The users of vB set up their time offset themselves. In my case, I am at GMT -8, California time.

The server is located in California. So, this means that I need to add 8 back to GMT -8 and add 7 to compensate for the Day Light Saving time?

With the Day Light Saving time NOT in effect, it would be 8, right?

What does the "t" do in the GMTOFFSET box?

Thanks for being patient with me on this one.

t does nothing. I think Michael's explanation was cut off in the setting explaining the process

Your server is located in California so you need to place an 8 in there.

That "t" caused a lot of hair pulling here. It led me down the wrong path of thinking.

Yeah, I put an 8 there. It is showing up correctly now.

Thanks.
