Exclamation Cannot Upgrade need Customer Support

Hello,

I have tried, now twice, unsuccesfully to upgrade from 4.7-5.13. Everytime I get to the section where it is supposed to move the data it crashes my dedicated server. We have about 1 gig in photos, over 40000 photos and I just don't think my server nor the upgrade script can handle the amount of data we have. I need an alternative. Please let me know what that is.

Thanks
Christine

Hello

I have personally upgraded systems with 60000 to 85000 images with our upgrade script on shared servers. What do you mean it crashes it? I can tell you the move process will take hours easily

There is no alternative except for running the upgrade script.

When I say crash I mean our server load goes above 150. I mean apache fails then all the processes fail. I mean that I have to restart the server then go in and pick up the pieces of my shattered life. We don't have a shared server ours is dedicated BUT we have LOTS of traffic, so this isn't the only thing that is happening on the server. It is the NOT the upgrade script crashing the server it IS the amount of data that the script has to transfer. I really need alternative because this is not going to work for my server.

Okay well I doubt its the upgrade script causing this on its own. It is the upgrade plus the fact your site traffic is so huge the added work is causing this.

There is no workaround here. You need to close your site to visitors as in turn off the gallery the forums etc anything to lessen your load so you can complete the upgrade.

You will need to go through the upgrade script in its entirety for every upgrade you need to run. Make sure to only run step 3 of the upgrade 4.85/486 script once.

I don't think the upgrade script is causing the crash, I think when the upgrade script attempts to move the photos to the new data structure my server can't handle it even though we have 2 GIG of Ram, because we just have alot of large photos. I don't think that closing my forums down is the answer because the issue is not only that we have high traffic, but the size of our data move (close to 1 gig) is just too much. I can try doing the closing the forums down, but I am not hopeful. What I am hopeful is that someone at Photopost will help me come up with a solution.
