What is the problem with the upgrade? Is it a common problem?

I was thinking about deleting all of the files and just start from stratch. I didn't think the upgrade would cause this much trouble. Probably easier just to leave at 4.6.

There are no known issues with the upgrade.

More than likely looks to me like you have not uploaded all the required files.
From 4.6 to 5.1 virtually everything is changed so you want to upload everything except the config files.
