trouble with the "Retrieve all images from a URL" feature

Greetings! I have just installed the latest 5.11 this Monday (new install/new customer). Everything is going pretty well, but I'm trying to iron out some kinks before I proceed with other things. One thing holding me back is the inability to use the "Retrieve all images from a URL" Extra Option.

I have checked with the parsing needs and feel this file should work:
http://www.wirefunk.com/pictures/200...rop/index.html

It is a 15 line html page with lines like:
( img src="http://www.wirefunk.com/pictures/2004-March-Bastrop/Dscn1316.jpg" )
( img src="http://www.wirefunk.com/pictures/2004-March-Bastrop/Dscn1333.jpg" ) (with the right greater/less than signs of course, don't want to confuse the forum)

When I click upload, it goes through the redirect scripts... "Preparing" page... "Your image upload successful" page... Then it drops to the galllery with a page saying "This cat doesn't contain images".

I quickly thought it might have to do with permissions, or the way the directories might be setup. The data and uploads were 777'd before the install, but i double-confirmed they still were. I changed "PATH to UPLOADS directory?" from
/home/picside/web/photopost/uploads/ to /web/photopost/uploads/ and got

Warning: fopen(/web/photopost/uploads/1/index.htm): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/.macha/picside/web/photopost/pp-inc.php on line 1953

Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /home/.macha/picside/web/photopost/pp-inc.php on line 1954

----- Picside Message
/web/photopost/uploads/1: Error creating directory (check permissions).

Please notify the System Administrator.

... Changed it back and the rest of the site works again. Any insights? Thanks!

You can try yourself at: http://www.picside.com/photopost l/p: tester

Dunno if this is of help... URL it goes to after "preparing":
http://www.picside.com/photopost/bulkupload.php?ppaction=addphotos&do=preview
&photopath=1&upuser=Picside&notify=no&defcat=500&numprocess=&deftitle=&defdesc=
&updir=%2Fhome%2Fpicside%2Fweb%2Fphotopost%2Fuploads%2F1&processall=no&dthumbs=yes

Thanks!
Cory

Make sure the permissions on your uploads directory are properly set (777).

Thanks for the quick response, but I think you might have scanned my request and caught that error message and replied in haste. I created the error to point out that permissions is not my problem. From my server...

drwxrwxrwx 8 picside pg94222 4096 Jun 15 14:10 uploads
drwxrwxrwx 2 picside pg94222 4096 Jun 15 17:03 1 ..etc...

Since I posted the original thread, I have installed vB3 and successfully intergrated the two packages. This URL upload is one tiny huge problem I need to resolve.

Thanks!
Cory

I would ensure that you type the full downloadurl with index.html on the end and make sure you have uploaded all the proper photopost files

I'm glad to confirm the URL is not the problem... I of course have been adding the index.html in the url. What are "all the proper photopost files" that would be required for this? Does this need an additional module of some sort? I uploaded the complete contents of the PP51 release I downloaded from you on Monday. I scanned the forums up and down and went through the sparse documentation but couldn't find any info on it. After "uploading the url" is says it successfully processes them, then just puts the user into their gallery with no warning/error messages. It's like it's not even looking for them??? I have succesfully uploaded files that I ftp'd into the upload directory and every other way of posting files...

Thanks!
Cory

What I meant was make sure you make have all 5.11 files incase this was an upgrade over existing files from an older version

Hmmmm... Well, I am a new user/install as mentioned so all the files are defitelely there. Ya'll have not given any suggestions to help with my issue that I wasn't already aware of. I know ya'll deal with a lot of foolish "admins", but I've been building websites since 1995 and know a good deal...

I have ran up against several issues while installing PhotoPost and vB3 this week and have resolved all of them without asking any questions. I hate having to resort to asking for help. I don't expect to need any help from ya'll except this one issue... So, please make a suggestion that I have not already tried...

As stated in my original inquiry (which has a good chunk of info):
Permissions are correct.
Html file to parse is correct.
EVERYTHING works... except "upload url".

I guess my problem is unique to my server? I am running on Dreamhost and as I mentioned... everything else works... If needed, I can PM ya'll with info to get into the admin section. As with many many computer issues, I feel this can be fixed with a 5 second fix... Finding the culpret option is the challenge!

Thanks!
Cory

Well I would suggest you PM me ftp info and admin login as I have already shown I processed that downloadurl with no problems at all.

I think I found my problem... A user in vB3 complained about not being able to upload an avatar from a URL... I tried, vB3 gave me this kind answer:

fopen() wrappers are disabled in your PHP config. Please ask your host to enable allow_url_fopen if you wish to load avatars from other sites.

Yep that would do it and explain why we are not able to duplicate it.
