Thumbs, Mini, Medium

Are the photos in the thumbs, mini, and medium folders designated by size in kilobytes for each image or how is it determined what photo goes where?

The reason I ask is because I just upgraded to 5.03 and everything went fairly smooth except I kept getting an error close to the end when converting the images over. I just finished and went through to the end to see what would happen.

Everything seems to be running fine but when I look at my data directories there are a few that seem to have some discrepancies. Some files that look like (size wise) they should be thumbs are in the root (number) directory.

In other words in data directory 500 (the root of 500) I have many files that look as though they should be in the thumbs directory (size wise), many other files look as though they should be in the medium directory (size wise) then it appears to me that large photos should be outside the thumbs, mini, and medium directories.

So I guess I just need an explanation as to how these are situated and if it is safe to manually copy files into the correct directories if they are in the wrong directory?

Thanks

Rick

Hi..

Can you remember the error you recieved? - if your not sure, you could try the installtion/upgrade again after restoring your photo tables backup etc, sounds like the upgrade didn't work due to CHMOD permissions not being set properly, i would restore a backup and try the install again, make a note of any errors, remember NOT to run the upgrade twice (step three anyways) and make sure you have the CHMOD on all files and dirs set to 777.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Everthing seems to be working fine so if I don't have to do it over I would prefer not to especially since it is a fairly active community and I already have new photos, comments, etc.

Can I just move things manually for now and can someone explain where and why certain photos go into certain directories?

Thanks

Rick

Without you saying what error you had we can not assist you.

If you think something is not right please post a link and state what is not right so we can better understand what your issue is.

OK,

I restored the old tables and went through the upgrade. Here is the same error I received last time and have not been able to get past by refreshing the screen or chaning any permissions.

Preparing to move files...
Copy of /home/digitals/public_html/galleria/data/505/14AdamDerby1Preview-thumb.jpg to /home/digitals/public_html/galleria/data/505/thumbs/14AdamDerby1Preview.jpg failed!

This step has completed. If you had file errors, you can REFRESH this page to keep moving files or retry moves that did not work if you fixed any permissions issues.

When you are finished, click here to continue to next step --->

The jpg was actually moved into the thumbs directory but it shows as 0 bytes.

It looks as though the majority of the rest of the files were copied with no problem. I check permissions and all folders are 777 and all jpgs are 644

I will not do anything until I hear back so I can get this right this time

Thanks

Rick

Is this only one file error? I would not worry about it. However check your datadir path and all data directory permissions and make sure they are 777. I would think that error is stating data directory 505/thumbs is not 777 or the file it is trying to rename and copy does not exist

OK, but how do I get past the error and how do I know that all other directories will be written/rewritten correctly.

All directories are set to chmod 777 and the file does exist. Please check my previous post as I was editing as you were answering.

Thanks

If its just one or two thumbs just go on. Make sure to only run step3 ONCE and then you can always rebuild a missing thumb or two after upgrade.

OK I went ahead and clicked the click to next step button and removed my upgrade file. How do I rebuild the missing thumbs?

Thanks
