Cannot upload photos

This same problem was posted by Phyllis on 4/26, but her problem seems to have been resolved without documentation on this forum.

I can't upload photos to my gallery - www.kitspirations.com/Gallery. When I hit the "upload/submit" button, I get a red x in a white box where the preview image should be, and when I hit the "process" button, I get "The page cannot be displayed" (www.kitspirations.com//Gallery//bulkupload.php). There's a test account - user name "test", password "test"

Check all your url's and paths when you installed the application. They do not seem right here

Notice you have an extra / here

Also you have missing images as your image directory is set the same as above.

Check your uploads and data server paths as more than likely they are wrong as well

OK - I removed all of the extra / that I had. Now I get a bunch of error messages - I apparently have my paths set up incorrectly, but I'm not sure what they should be.

Can you please help me with this? I've seen similar problems in this forum, but nothing seems to work! My permissions are all set correctly. If it's my paths, what should they be?

Per our installation instructions your uploads and data directories as well as all there subdirectories need to be 777.

You also still have in the url setup of the program that extra slash between the domain name and Gallery

All of my permissions are correct - I re-checked them so many times!

images 755
uploads 777
help 755
data 777
1 777 (inc. subdirs)
2 777 (inc. subdirs)
500 777 (inc. subdirs)
languages 755
english 755

Extra slash is now gone - really!

The images are in Gallery/data/1/ and the thumbs are in Gallery/data/1/thumbs/

I don't know what else to do - I've looked at the permissions so many times!

I did notice when reviewing everything, that there is a Gallery/2/ folder that contains one of my images and a Gallery/5/folder that contains one of yours? (slimer-12-11-02) - are these folders supposed to be there?

Usually your uploads folder is called uploads

You have your uploads folder set to your main gallery directory so of course permissions are not correct as gallery would and should be 755

In Global Options set the url and server path to add in the uploads folder in the place where it asks you for uploads url and path

Can you please help me?! I've discovered through a lot of research in these forums, that it appears to be an issue of file size. I don't think that it's unreasonable to have a 300kb file to upload, but I can't even do that. What can I adjust to upload larger images?

I can't even upload a 100kb file.

Per your response to another thread, I've modified my bulkupload.php file with;

ini_set("memory_limit", "20M");

This appears to have done nothing.

Did you go to the usergroup manager in the admin control panel and set the `upload file size limit' per usergroup? - to 300?

...Also make sure that Allow uploads (per usergroup) is set to Yes

Yes, I did adjust the upload file size limits within the control panel, and I game me, admin, unlimited file size. From what I've been reading in these forums, the file size may be limited somewhere else, but I'm not sure where. At one point today, I was able to upload a 300kb file, but only once! Whenever I try, I get the "page cannot be found" message.

Who is your host?

The file in question that usually restricts the file upload size without someone wanting is php.conf where the limitbodyrequest variable restricts the size.

I just uploaded 3 images to your install no problem

My host is Network Solutions. Where do I find the php.conf file? Do I have access to that file?

I saw the images that you uploaded, but they were all very small - 57kb being the largest. I literally cannot upload over 70kb! When you've compressed a file down to that size, it's not worth seeing anyway! It's hard to believe that the limitbodyrequest variable is set this low! I am so discouraged!

You most likely do not have access to that file. You would need to contact your host to see what restriction they have on the limitbodyrequest variable.

I just uploaded an 80KB image to your install but it does not do a 149kb one I tried

What would be a reasonable limitbodyrequest variable? Can I just ask them to increase it?

I keep seeing a lot of threads here of people complaining that they can't upload over 2mb - I'm not even in the ballpark! I'm trying to upload a 26kb file right now and it won't let me. It's completely inconsistent! Yesterday, very briefly, I was able to upload a 300kb file! How can it change like that?

well not uploading over 2mb has to do with another server file. That would be php.ini and by default php does not allow over a 2mb upload unless you tweak it.

I can not say what your host will or will not do. If they remove the limitbodyrequest the upload file limit would default to the php default in php.ini whichever they have that set to.

I'm currently waiting to hear from Network Solutions - after being on hold forever, the technician said he spoke to an engineer that needs to speak to an engineer above him, etc. They're supposed to e-mail me within a few hours. After that phone call, I'm not feeling too optimistic about them adjusting this file! I'll keep you updated one way or the other - please don't forget about me!

"I am sorry however being in a shared hosting environment we cannot change the global php.conf file"

What can I do?
