After Upgrade Full Size Images No Longer Compress

I use to run 4.0.1 and I upgraded to 5.0.3 When I had 4.0.1 when I uploaded images not only would the medium size be compressed, but the full size would be compressed and the size would be smaller than the size uploaded. After I upgrade I can't seem to find where I set this. In the admin CP under "Upload Photo Options" and the setting "Quality setting for image resizing/thumbnails?" I have played with but it either 1. only compresses thumbnails or 2. compresses the full sized images very little. I uploaded the same screenshots and inbetween changed the setting mentioned above and I can see a size difference in the medium sizes, but the full image size stays basically the same despite a good difference in the setting of 50 and 70.

I am using imagemagik to handle images and I am pretty sure I was using imagemagik to take care of images in 4.0.1 as well. I don't believe I did anything to change this and was wondering where I go to change it? I want to adjust the compression setting for the FULLSIZE images. I was also hoping you could tell me what file in 4.0.1 would contain this setting so that I could look at my old files locally and see what compression (how high) I had set so I can reset my 5.0.3 install to the same compression.

Check your resize options in upload photo settings in admin

I use a thumbnail size of 100 medium of 500 and large 1024 width 768 height but alot of people do 800x600

If your size of the photo is under the max sizes the large image does not get touched by the processor so if you want them to recompress smaller size you need to set a comfortable setting to you that all large images get resized by the processor

1. My settings are the same as in my 4.0.1 installation, yet 4.0.1 compressed the KB and MB size of the images. I'm not reffering to pixel sizes.

2. My thumbnails are set to 150x150, med: 640, large: 5000

3. I can go back and look at the full sized images that were uploaded when 4.0.1 was the function version and the full sized images look compressed. Yet, I know that they did not have that compression when I uploaded them. I noticed this same problem when I was working on my 2nd site powered by Photopost and it is using a 4.8.6 install. I didn't change any internal file stuff in 5.0.3, but I thought I remember being told somewhere in a file to change something that set mogrify (or one of those image programs) to do a compression thing.

I am 99% positive that I'm not imagining this compression of large images. With image uploads that were easily reaching the 5000x5000 limit, it would be be insane to not compress the full sized images... and frankly I would have complained a lot time ago.

I can post some examples if need be, though I don't still have the originals as they range from 30 to 60 MB psd files. Does that mogrify or imagemagik remind you of any settings that can manually be changed in files? I am thinking that I did something that way before, but can't remember if it was specifically related to compressing the full size images.

I understand that an image larger than my 5000x5000 would be compressed and readjusted to meet that setting, but I have some images that I can see compression in that I am pretty positive that I did not do manually.

Am I imagining this? I have an image that comes in at 3200 x 1800 with a size of 776.6kb from my 4.0.1 install. Then I have a 1200 x 1050 image that comes in at 777.8kb. The image is much smaller, but is taking up more space. I understand that if it was a "fancier" image that it would have a larger size, but the smaller image actually has a lot of black in it and dark and smiliar colors and should be smaller. <--- I say this just to not get a comment back about images and their basic varying sizes, as I know already, but am trying to give an example.

Any ideas?

If your large image is less than 5000x5000 the image is not touched by the image processor.
