performance degradation after update to 5.02

photopost is the best gallery software going, thanks to everyone here who makes it so.

I recently upgraded to pp 5.02 from 4.8.2 (not sure on the minor version number). I had high hopes for performance improvements after reading about some of the improvements and enhancements in the new version. instead, even with a "stock" install and no changes to our configs, we're now seeing *decreased* performance and a slower gallery with the upgrade to 5.02.

has anyone had a similar experience with the upgrade?
are there new features in 5.02 that might be causing this decreased performance? are there new features that we might disable, in order to achieve at least the performance of the earlier version?

dvn, did you upgrade anything else, for instance PHP? PP5 has a new, cache system that you can enable in the admin control panel. The option listed last under Global options.

I too would look to see have you upgraded anything else.

There are a number of server enhancing efforts in PP5 so it should not be slower

no, we didn't. as a matter of fact we've upgraded the server's RAM and lost a few (Latest Comments, thumbincluder) modifications with the update and our traffic capacity is still significantly down from what it was before the upgrade. this machine's (nearly) sole mission is our photopost install. I'm stumped and disappointed thus far. we're probably going to hire a consultant to look things over, but I wanted to check here first.

Biggest thing to do is look at the performance logs and see when running what script things slow down

You can also in admin turn on debugging and see how long it takes to generate pages etc and try to narrow down your bottleneck
