5.02 Question

We're in the process of upgrading our test install to 5.02.

In the images folder is a file called 'thumbs.db.'

We haven't seen that file before in prior builds and were curious as to what its function is (since it is in images but doesn't appear to be an image file type).

Is it related to the new folder structure of the thumbnails?

Thanks.

No, I don't know why that file is there; I dont show it in my build. You can remove it.

Hmm, that's odd.

I just pulled down the 5.02 build and this is the first I've seen it.

If you pull down the posted build do you see it?

Thanks.

thumbs.db will usually popup in any directory you might view with windows explorer and view type set to "thumbnails" ... normally it's a hidden file and so you won't ever see it if your looking at the dir from windows exploerer ... but as soon as you look at the dir in linux ... well there's the mysterious file.

As well i'm not sure if thumbs.db will onyl show up if there's image files in the dir, it might just auto-showup whenever the view-type is set to thumbnails.

It's a windows thing.

Thanks for the explanation.

I'm on Linux and BSD so not familiar with Window's hidden files.

How annoying; so how do you get rid of these files. I have it sleected to show hidden files, but it doesnt show up. I'll remove it from the ZIP file (since its 60kb!), but would be nice to be able to delete it.

you have to deselect "hide protected system files and directories" and then make sure you don't use thumbnail view again or it will be regenerated next time you open the folder in windows. I use ACDsee to manage all image files and so can leave the folder views as icons, not only don't I get thumbs.db popping up but its also a much better way of keeping the images in order

I had those deselected. What I found was you have to turn off "cache thumbnails" and it removes the file. You can also Search... for Thumbs.db and remove the files that way.

Like I said, how annoying!

In Windows

Click the Start button
Select Control Panel
Select Folder Options
Click the View tab
Check "Do not cache thumbnails"
Click the OK button
