New user - Installation Problems

I just purchased PhotoPost and am attempting to install on Win 2003 Server with IIS.

1) I have installed PHP and tested it. It looks like it's working ok.

2) I installed MySQL and it also appears to be ok.

3) I did not install GD because:
a) PHP 5.0.3 says it HAS GD2.
b) The GD site says: "Supported out of the box in PHP 4.3.x and 5.x
Windows DLL .zip (NOT CURRENTLY FOR PHP)"

When running the PhotoPost install.php I get:

1) "We were unable to verify that GD2 is installed properly. The function ImageCreateTrueColor does not exist. Check with your ISP and ensure GD 2.0 or higher is installed."

I cannot find any information on this error or how to fix it.

2) After that I get:

"Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect() in E:\PhotoPost\install.php on line 539"

I also can't find any information on this error or how to fix it.

Please help.

Thanks.

Hi..

Have you looked for the GD2.dll in your extensions directory? - is your php.ini setup to look or use that directory for extensions?

Looks as though your php isn't setup correctly, the install.php should make the connect to your database ok unless you haven't setup the username and pass correctly on localhost.

Is php 5.0.3 a stable version? - i'd would try 4.3.10 which is the last stable release i think.

In my PHP folder I moved php_gd2.dll from the ext folder to the mail php folder and this problem was solved. Unfortunately the PHP instructions at:

http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.windows.iis.php

don't say you must do that. (it's too bad that the PhotoPost people can't document their ENTIRE installation process...)

I was unable to get PHP 4.3.10 working due to lack of installation instructions for W2K3 server. There was a user contributed installation for V5.0 for W2K3 and I was able to follow that and make it work.

Any ideas on the MySQL issue? There is another reference to it in the forum but the solution is to "properly configure a user" for MySQL. And then a reference to the MySQL documentation.

What SPECIFIC user configuration is needed for PhotoPost?

No, I was mistaken on the GD2 issue. The error happened one step past where I stopped to report that it worked.

Moving the GD2 dll to the main PHP folder did NOT solve the problem. Note that in my PHP.INI file I have enabled the PHP GD2 extension:

extension=php_gd2.dll

So why doesn't it work?

More information. Also buried in the PHP installation is the need to set the PHPRC environment variable. Did that, now the phpinfo.php script shows GD2 as available. But another problem is now happening.

When running the install.php script for PhotoPost, when I click the "Start here..." link, the page refreshes and returns to this same page. No errors, no messages, nothing to help diagnose a problem.

Hello

Please note we link installation instructions to install Photopost. We necessarily do not link instructions on how to configure and install other apps like php and mysql. We simply state our application requires these.

I have answered your question in another thread on my your globals arent being passed in PHP 5 as you have register_long_arrays off.

My meaning on that is that you do link to 3rd party sites but what is missing from the PhotoPost instructions are the specific needs of PhotoPost for these other utilities...

Most every host when installing PHP 5.0 turn on long arrays to be compatible with most programs and this has only been an issue with one other guy in the past year. You find this issue compiling PHP with the strictest of settings which of course is not always the friendliest to any program.

The PHP site has extensive documentation on the long array and register global settings changes.
