481 to 5 upgrade - I now can see no images

I went thru the instructions step by step
Backed up database and all files
Turned of Gallery
Ran upgrad script - started with 4.82 link - The only errors in the upgrade.php was the one where it tries to remove the unused files. I removed them manually.
When I reopened the gallery I saw a bunch of "no thumbnail avail" images

So In an attempt to fox that I scaned the databse to rebuild the thumbs... It said it removed a BUNCH of images - Now the gallery is empty - No images in the interface

The images ARE in the data directory and the data directory was updated with the thumbs and mini directories

The gallery shows the category contains 200 or so pictures but when you click the category to see them it say it contains no images..

What stap did I miss ? What do I need to do ?

http://www.hynes-family.com/ppost/index.php

I knew I should have waited before upgrading.....

Doug

Every problem I have seen has been from permissions issues on data directories

You never run a rebuild thumb after an upgrade like this where it moves files as if you have a problem it will delete every image you have since PP5 is looking for images where PP5 thinks they are. They are of course still in PP 4.8.6 and below format.

Since you did a backup I would do this

1. Restore your photos table and data directory.

2. check each data directory to ensure it is 777

3. Then run the upgrade or PM me and I will assist you.

The pictures are still there in the data directory ...
Large pictures in the 50X folder and then
50x\medium
50x\mini
50x\thumbs
Under that
The pics seem to have been moved to the correct folders.
Is it still necessary to go thru the restore process ?

If the pictures seem to be moved you can just restore the photos table and run upgrade script again

The upgrade completed with out error - Isint it safe to assume then that with that info and the onfo posted above that the data move finished and the pics are where PP5 thinks they are ??

Im just trying to figure out what went wrong to prevent the same issue on the next gallery.

If the permissions were wrong would the gallery have otherwise worked correct ?

Doug,

I ran into the same problem, except I did not rebuild the thumbnails. But no images including the thumbnails are available.

Ok

I dropped the photo table and then added it back and repopulated it from the back up ( I LOVE BACKUPS )

THen reran the upgrade from 4.82

It errored out mostly BUT now I can see the thumbnail and photo place holders - BUT the issue is that it is looking for the pictures with NO prepended id number - BUT the pictures in the medium folder still have the user number prepended.

for example I see red x's and its looking for a picture at
http://www.hynes-family.com/ppost/da...m/P8051801.JPG

BUT the picture is at http://www.hynes-family.com/ppost/data//513/medium/1P8051801.JPG\

EDIT - I had previously confirmed 777 permissions on all data folders

I have backed up ALL of the photopost database tables into one file database.sql.

Could you please tell me how you could repopulate ONLY the "photos" table from the whole backup?

Sorry for interrupt in your thread.

Yep this is the order of the 4.8.5-4.8.6 upgrade script to 5.0

IT NEEDS TO FINISH IN ORDER AND FULLY WITHOUT ERROR FOR NO ERRORS

step1 adds new tables and settings

step2 moves all files

step3 rewrites photos as photoname with userid prepended to front into bigimage field and deletes old photopost php files no longer needed

Good question

open the sql file or better yet a copy of it with a GOOD text editor..

You will find a section like this

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
The text above are 4 sql commands - One drops the photos table then reloads it - the next one drops the contents of the photos table then it adds the photo data back...

I used those commands from within phpmyadmin

the only change this time was I let the Move Data step run for about 5 min AFTER the "done" message came up...

Thanks for your help

Doug

The permissions structure for the Photopost package has not changed for Photopost 5

The uploads and data directories as well as there subdirectories have always needed to be 777 with any version of Photopost

The only issues I have encountered is when data directories are not 777 or upgrade script is not ran to the end.

Step2 states wait till it goes to the next step and it may take awhile.

In every case if a user double checks permissions as the script states and reruns step2 like it states then things are fine.

I will see if we can word things even more explicit as I am seeing alot of people running step3 multiple times which is a big no no

I just ran upgrade on second gallery

I set all files inside the gallery folder to 777 and it still failed

Apparently the Gallery folder itself was 755 - that prevented the file deletes from happening .... I changed the permission of it - hit back and redid the FINAL step - Files deleted correct this time

Once again I dont have images - just a bunch of thumbnail not avail images...
Ill try rerunning step 2

Step 2 of which upgrade ?

EDIT - Ok this appares to be step 2
"Preparing to move files"

The files are moved ( just like last time ) - Im replacing the photos table again and going to run thru the upgrade again but want to be sure I only do the right steps.

Yep only step2 can you run twice if you get errors although thats indicative permissions are wrong
