This is confusing to me.

Here are a couple things that are confusing to me and may been part my problem with a bad upgrade today.

In the upgrade.txt in the pp 5 zip it says this.

##### 2) Upload all files - except config-inc.php, unless you modified it from the ZIP file - to
your server. You do not need install.php for an upgrade.######

In the upgrade instructions that Michel has posted in another thread it has this.

###### 3) Copy the files from the ZIP download in the main directory, except config-inc.php/config.int.php, install.php and watermark.php. Upload the templates, forums, images, languages and stylesheets directory (careful not to over right any custom style you may have created/modified). ######

Which is right....2 or 3.

Also when do you upload the files that it says not to upload or is it as it says and they don't need to be uploaded. Really confusing to me since I don't understand php that well.

Also where can I find how to make sure I got the right permissions where if set wrong it deletes all images when running the upgrade script.

I would like to be able to install and not have to restore another backup which takes forever with how I did it.

Thanks for helping, will try again tomorrow. iloco

Hi, yes that would be confusing :D - i'd let Micheal answer that!

anyways on the checking permissions side of things check the images attached, it's a view from my FTP client, it shows me the 'atributes' of a file and if i chmod any file to 777 it will show "rwxrwxrwx" - good luck for tommorrow, you'll be upgraded in no time im sure...

So do I chomd all my folders and files 777 or just all my files.
I need a clear explanation of this since new upgrade has been wiping out images for some members who use PP because permissions are set wrong.
I know I got wrong permissions but how do I correct when I dont know the ones to reset the permissions on. :o(

I will wait on answer about the two different statements in upgrade instructions and permissions before attempting another upgrade.

If I read the upgrade.txt I think it can get a little confusing but lets go this route

On an upgrade you upload all files except for config files as they hold the variables to connect to database etc.

I think in the third point He is trying to get across if your using a custom stylesheet etc dont upload the new ones or your overrighting your work.

Basically permissions are always suppose to be the same and the upgrade makes no meantion of permissions since we assume the customer has already set permissions correctly per the installation instructions.

The data and uploads directories as well as any subdirectories under them need to be set to 777

The template and stylesheet files as well as the config files need to be set to 666 so you can edit and save them.

Other than that its a matter of running the upgrade script.

As I stated before if you upload all the PP5 files I have no problems running the upgrade for you and go through to see what errors you get to assist you. I just upgraded a customer with over 5000 photos and she had not one error. Usually when we have encountered errors on the PP5 upgrade before in early beta if was because of permissions not being set correctly on some data categories and or some users did not complete the last step if upgrade thus not rewriting the filenames.

Ok my sub direcorys in uploads were set at 755 and I know have them set to 777.
Data is 777 and all sub directorys set at 777.

Template directory is set at 755, also stylesheet directory set at 755. Is this correct.
tmpl files set for 666, style sheet css files set at 666.

I am going to upload all the files except Install.php/config-int.php and config-inc.php. Is this correct. Do I upload the watermark.php of keep it out the upload as micheal said to do in instructions.
Will pm you when get this last question answered and all the new files uploaded with permissions checked so you can run the upgrade script.

yep sounds right to me although I see no reason why to not upload the watermark.php file

iloco March 4th, 2005 10:40 AM

I will not going to upload config-inc.php, config-int.php and Install.php.
All other files will be uploaded and permissions checked and then will send you pm so you can run the upgrade script. Give me just few and I be ready. :o)
