New install possible after bad upgrade?

I was wondering if I could make a backup of my data files and photos database, delete all photopost database, do a fresh install of 5.0, and later place the photos back in the new install? Would that work?

Nope as the upgrade still needs to run and convert the photos tables and files to the new structure

I would make a backup and then try making sure all permissions are right on all the data subdirectories and try an upgrade again.

I ran the upgrade, and the only part of the upgrade that did not work was the third step. It said permissions denied to unlink some files or something. Does this mean that the files are converted? It looks like it since the data files are divided into medium and thumb files. If the conversion did work, could I do what I was saying in my original question.

Also, what are the correct permissions on the data subdirectories? 777?

I cannot change the permissions to 777. The pictures are all 644. Even if I try to change them individually, they still do not change. Weird. Any ideas?
