photopost 4.86 vb 3.05, no admin

Running some tests
installed photopost 4.86
installed vb 3.0.5
originally had it setup to use photopost as the registration system, later changed mind and added vb and made all the necessary changes to use the vb authentication registration system.

here's the problem:
If i set the reg system to photopost I can use the admin, see all the pic cats etc.
If I change it to vb3, I can login, and i'm recognized by both vb and photopost, but not as an admin, and there is no "upload photo" button anywhere.

(I doubt cookie issue, as it does recognize me in both systems)

also:
when someone registers using the vb system, when photopost is set that way, they can login to both systems but cannot see any pictures at all, other than the members gallery, which does nothing when clicked.

My best guess is that photopost is not picking up the group permissions from vb, which are standard. It does recognize the login, but with no permissions.

Is there directions on fixing this issue?
both my cookie prefix settings and vb license# are correct, double checked.

Did you delete all your usergroups and redo the usergroup inserts to those of vb3?

remember the admin in vb3 is groupid 6
