Safe Mode Off - am I screwed?

I just had to switch hosts after the worm ate my site and discovered my hosting service had been sold to someone with sub-standard software. I needed many specifics for a forum driven site with lots of images (large disk space) I was referred to the new provider checked everything and went through the painstaking process of upgrading to vBulletin, PhotoPost Pro, and PhotoPost Classifieds. I must not have realized about Safe Mode since my previous version was PhotoPost GMS. I have spoken with my new host and they will NOT turn on Safe Mode. Am I pretty much screwed and need to switch hosts again, or is there a work around?

Per out requirements yes to be able to allow others to upload etc you need safe mode OFF

What a bunch of work down the drain. I don't even know where to start to find a host. Nobody advertises whether or not they have safe mode on or off. Most don't even tell you what version of PHP they are running. Any ideas?

Thanks Omegatron.

You should be able to contact any host you see and ask if safe mode is off or on they are required to be honest and tell you.

Ipowerweb.com powweb.com olm.net as well as a long list of others are safe mode off.

Thanks Omegatron. I am so leary of web hosts now. The one I just left that started as a great host that I knew ended up as ghettowebhosting.com that would not allow access to my databases for me to back up and found out too late that they had not performed a backup in 3 months. Also with the PHP issues that downed my site I would like to know the host is running 4.3.10. I only have 13 more days to get my money back from this new host.

Thanks again,

Well, I guess they would tell me if they can ever get to my call. I was on hold a total of 45 minutes with two of the places and never did get through.
The Powweb is tempting but I am not sure about the 5 gig limit for bandwidth. I am not even sure where I was but with over 3000 images in my gallery I would guess that is not enough. One of the sites also only runs PHP ver 4.3.2 and since my site was hacked partly due to a security issue with any version under 4.3.10, I am leary again. I'll continue checking, just can't find out the info I need in a timely manner.
