You told me the path was absolutely correct hense there was nothing for me to look at.
I gave the suggestion to backup everything both database and data directories and rebuild thumbs.
1. Thumbnails do not dissapear except for two reasons one they are deleted which our program does not do
2. Your server paths change to the image.
Resend the info and I will have a look. All I need is url and admin login

Your permissions are not set right on the uploads directory and or your temp directory is locked down. If permissions are set right on uploads and data directories I would contact your host

Around Jan 7th (date of clean install) all of the permissions were properly setup on the server, typically that is a ONE TIME deal, set it and forget it. Besides no one else has FTP info etc, etc. Permissions or not, something here is changing on it's own without user intervention... that's not a good sign.
per ISP
Hi Brian,
Hi,
Please I need to know what changes if any were made to this server in past 10 days
Linux ex08.blacksun.ca 2.4.20-37.7.blacksun2smp #1 SMP Sat Dec 11 20:04:04 CET 2004 i686
This is in regard to /home/.sites/123/site64/web
which has a photo gallery that just stopped operating after being freshly installed on site and then being tested for a few days, then it just collapsed. Developer of said piece is suggesting the server has changed somehow a path somewhere etc, etc.
NEED TO KNOW.
Thanks
brian

Thanks for the email. I have verified with our server team that no changes have been made in the last 10 days on the server that your site resides on. I can also verify that the path is still
'/home/.sites/123/site64/web'.
take care, Pamela

In regards to uploads.
In data directory dir/ 1 and dir 2/ are gone they do not exist in the data folder. The has happened between install and now. Otherwise how would I have uploaded images in gallery in first place.

Right well this is happening via server level not through our program. There is nothing in our code thats going to delete your uploads directories
You must set your uploads and data directories to 777 for uploads to function as well as any subdirectories under those two directories

Hold on a second here, WHAT
I'm not uploading anything. My thumbnails disappeared the other day. Then images failed to appear. Why do I feel like a roundy round.
Sorry to yell a bit. What do permissions on an upload folder have to do with images already contained in data folder but unavialable to end users visiting the site. There are 400+ images there in the data folder in appropriate cats. The permissions are all correct!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO ONE has made any changes to the server in the time since the software was installed roughly 10 days ago.
The thumbnails disappeared. You suggest the server was changed. Nothing on the server has changed except what i said above. Everything is in it's place right now where it should and Photopost program refuses to Create thumbs from images in it's own cat directories.

I tried to upload as I stated and this told me permission are not set correctly on your install as I posted this above. You can not upload to it as a result
As a result as well you most likely do not have permissions set correctly in your data directories which would mean thumbs can not be created
Here is the installation instructions which list the full permissions files and directories need to be for proper operation of the program http://www.photopost.com/installphp.html
Until you set the permissions correctly the program will not operate correctly.

Brian I have posted this above so lets go through this again.
You do not have permissions set correctly on your uploads directories
Unable to move file [/tmp/phpyxup2z] [/home/.sites/123/site64/web/forum/gallery/uploads/5/cinema-bild.jpg]
Hense it stands to reason you do not have permissions set right on your data directory
You must set the proper permissions that are stated in the install document I have linked above on your uploads/data directories as well as any subdirectory under there to 777

Are you trying ot tell me the photopost program puts images back into the upload directory to create the tumbnail file then moves that thumb back into the proper place?
What's going on here?

No No No.
Tell me why photopost creates a new directory inside the upload directory with the name "5" then tell me why photopost locks that directory disallowing any type of user upload from admin or otherwise. The directory photopost created is locked. As admin of the domain I can't even affect changes on the directory all i can do is delete it... opps there it is again locked up tight.
Go figure omegatron

Simple answer you would have to ask your host
All we do is create a directory which is the users userid and chmod it to 777 if we can. WE LOCK NOTHING
You still have not answered my question that permissions are set right or not.

Dude you have the FTP access to the site in your mailbox Go look for yourself messages amoung the thousands you have there Subject: ongaros
Your program creates dir "5" w/Owner Id 101 Group Setting 500 what else you need to know. Visually this folder your program makes is set to 777 inside a directory set to 777. If the Uploads dir were not set to 777 then it's only logical PhotoPost would not create a new directory labled "5" ? YES NO.

Actually I dont have ftp access to your server but I could not use it is I wanted
We are not authorized to touch your server only provide suggestions to help you.
If your telling me that all the directories that need to be are 777 then your host has locked your tmp directory and thus you will not be able to upload to Photopost

Okay well I found an interesting fact about your install although its highly unusual your not getting an error message
Your server has SAFE MODE set to ON
That is one of the requirements that has to be OFF for Photopost to work
No wonder why uploads do not work. Yes as I stated your locked down

Rather odd. This would have stopped me cold in my tracks when i did the install. So they are fibbing. They upgraded PHP to the current versionon the server. Left safe mode off then turned around and turned it back on.
So I can circumvent this with a simple htaccess in the gallery directory?

Funny you say that about photopost. It was running all of 2004 under previous version of PHP with safe mode on.

Brian if your the only one uploading it may work at times since the directory exists. Like the administrator can upload no problem using GD2
