485 upgrade: vb active users / template issue

The usual moment of panic when things didn't work out, but a few moments of tweaking and it appears to be running. Great. Two questions...

(1)
Following the instructions carefully, I have overwritten all my templates. And there goes all my work!

I understand you now have support for the collapsible blocks.

Is there anything else in the templates that we should know or care about? It will be faster for me to add collapsing doo-dads to my customized templates rather than start over. But I don't know what else I might be missing in the way of improvements, features, or essentials. At a first glance it all looks pretty much the same.

But them, I'm not used of looking at that format much anymore!

(2)
In my current (vb3) install, many members hang out in the gallery, and they fade from the active users block on the home page... ie the old photo gallery did not update the session file.

I'm having a tough time testing that with just me here. Is is true that 4.85 will update the vb sesion table while members cruise the gallery? Would someone please confirm that was specifically something added for this vb3 enchanced release?

Please and thank you.

1) Hard to say, you might try comparing the files with Beyond Compare or something as I don't know what is different from what you might have had.

2) 4.85 does work with the vb3 session table.

Of course you don't know what is different from what I might have had. That wasn't the question. I wondered what was different from what you had.

But never mind, it's answer enough: do it the hard way because we didn't keep track and don't know offhand.

I can live with that.

Great to see the active session integration.

I just bought a copy of vba_gallery. He does a supreme job of integration: eventually he'll whup you in that respect, because he is vb only. But meantime, it isn't mature enough. Funny how you guys slipped in so many changes and improvements over the years that I have come to take for granted.

Thank you for the prompt response. Happy New Year.

Different from what I had when? You didn't tell me anything about what version you had to begin with.

Beyond Compare is an excellent tool; I use it often to merge in updates to my own sites.

From 482 to 485. Yes I have a compare utility. There are issues using those, I am sure you know them. It's always easier to have some broad strokes before digging into details. But it's not important. Upgrades suck but they have to be done.

This is starting to make me crazy. My sidebar menu is centered, it should not be. Some template mixup maybe. When I view source on photopost pages and forum pages, I get these results:

Photopost index page source:
Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Forum index page source:
Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
Photopost is putting a "<div align=center>" tag immediately after the vb space_open template. At least I think it is photopost.

Darned if I can find where this is coming from.

Any hints appreciated...

PS: I'll need to locate the </div> tage as well. And if it matters, my menubar.tmpl is empty (I have the menu in the sidebar).

Argh! Template driven systems. What's the point, if they get changed with new releases of code!? Oh woe is me... There. That felt better.

Okay I got it:

In header-inc.php:

Code:
Content visible to verified customers only.
I must now carefully remove the <div align="center"> and </div> tags from all occurences of $vbheader and $vbfooter ?

But I wonder why photopost is hard-coding html that will affect the way my site looks? This makes no sense to me.

This makes me nervous, because I do not know what else might break as a result. I don't really believe you would format my site, so I'm inclined to think something else has broken already, or I have somehow mis-used your templates....

If this is "vb compatible" code, why are my vb pages not centered?

I have a fix, I am on my way, if somewhat deflated.

Somebody please hold me close and assure me everything will be fine in the morning.

Thank you.

VB also hard coded the div align="center" tag in your header as well thats why we have it there so everything looks like your vb3 forum.
