Users moderate own comments w/out approval?

This was possible in a previous version of PP (we went straight from 4.1.5 to 4.82 so it may have been one of the intermediate versions):

User uploads photo, awaits approval. While awaiting approval, photo is listed in gallery with an image of 'image awaiting approval', but text is visible. User gets a message from a moderator that they need to edit their description (to add some required text we want all photos to have), but they can't find their photo!

So we have to approve it, let them edit the description, and when they've done so, it goes back to awaiting approval AGAIN, and moderator has to approve it.

I realize that this could be abused if it wasn't so, but our particular board is made up of 60-80 year old women who don't even swear in private, not to mention on a public board.

So question: Am I missing a setting/can I put it back to previously where a user can upload a photo, await moderation of the photo, but in the meantime continue to edit the photo DESCRIPTION?

If not possible currently, feel free to move into the wishlist forum...

This sounds like the way it is suppose to be coded. You might simply want to turn off moderation.

Yeah, I was afraid of that - the problem we have is that a)it used to be that way, and b) we've got a much more 'mature' audience who i'm not worried about making trouble with unmoderated descriptions.

Thanks for the reply tho - can you move this into the wishlists area for future versions?

Here's a post about a problem we had with moderated usergroups approved upload being sent back to moderate if they tried to edit after approval.

When user edits approved photo it goes back to awaiting approval

Lines 360 and 361 of editphoto.php

if ( $User['usemod'] == 0 ) $moderate = 1;
else $moderate = 0;

change to

$moderate = 1;

Hmm, I see the trouble with the solution - people can edit the description AND the photo, which means they can basically self-approve images.

Since our members won't need to re-upload the image, i'll just edit that out of the editphoto.php form, and that should take care of it for us.

THanks for the code fix!

Exactly see this was actually a bug fix that allowed users to edit photos and have them display when usergroup moderation was set to yes

The code I gave both you and mjm puts the bug back in place

Well this goes to show the need for different levels of moderation depending on the type of folks that peruse your gallery.
In my case, initial moderation does ensure I keep out spam or smut, but more importantly allows me to moderate that gray area between unique artwork and a mass produced item (spam).

Once their photo has been been approved, we WANT the user to be responsible for editing (improving) descriptive comments, OR replacing pic with a better pic. (alas, it's usually done quicker, but more work if we hold their hand during the procedure or do it ourselves for them - for many of our members this is their first time experience on a site like ours)

iwbyte, it's true that, our members could replace the image with something not acceptable, but in our case members have never abused this, actually never ever used it, unless we editors request they do - ie `your picture is too small - replace it with a bigger pic.

Personally, I believe trust means also empowering your users with some responsibility. If you have spiteful users onboard your site, probably the greatest damage they will try and inflict is through their comments -touch wood, we've never had that problem.
