Upgrading 4.7i to 4.8.2

Hi, this is probably a stupid question but I am upgrading from 4.7i to 4.8.2 and the only installation instructions I am finding are implying a new install. Do I FTP the files to my server and overwrite the ones that are there now? Are there step by step instructions just for upgrading?

In the upgrades folder is the upgrade instructions and in the documentation folder is a changedfiles log of all changes version to version
