I have No IDea how to install PHOTOPOST. please help!

ive tried following the guide, but it really tells you nothing about what you should put ONCE you actually get to the install.php page.

i dont konw what some of the variables should be.

does anyone know where i can get a step by step walkthrough to installing this program. thanks

If you know nothing about installing web applications, you should hire the installation service provided.
I know is costy but it saves you a lot of headaches.

JanHermstad I am sure we can help you here! RBL seems to have forgotten that we all started off knowing nothing, and none of us developed our skills by paying someone else to do the job for us! You have paid a chunk of money for your software, and these forums are here so that you can get help with it.

When running the install script, you have to enter some information so that the script can work out where it is installed, and what settings it should use. Many of these are explained in the installation script, and some of them are filled in for you! So I expect there are just a few things that you are stuck on, so if you are still stuck, let us know exactly what you don't understand.

Paths and URLs (often confused)
A path is a server path from the home directory to the directory that you are installing the script in. For example: /home/username/public_html/your_script/goes_here If you do not know the path to your public html directory, ask your hosting provider.

A URL is the web address that you type into your browser to get to a specific location on your web site, and it should begin with http:// For example: http://www.yourdomain.com/your_script/goes_here/

Anything else you need to know, just ask.

You forget though more often than not a person who knows nothing of what they are doing can mess up a site if they do something wrong. I think personally RBL's advice is right on. It is not like the customer is asking one question they are stumped from what I am reading. They are totally in the dark here and have admitted as such.. When you have someone like that who knows nothing of how to install software and opening admits this the proper advice on a support forum would be purchase an install service.

Fair comment. PP sertainly is not for the beginner. Maybe they should put "Skill level 6" on the purchase page.

Installing PP is not like assembling IKEA furniture =)
Even for the ones with the necessary skills, sometimes problems arise that are a pain to solve. I for one know first hand the kind of mayhem you unleash when you don't know what you are doing in a very sensitive area like a web server, hence my advice.

A Photopost Install if you know what your site access information and how to read a phpinfo page to get server paths as well as chmod is are probally a 3 out of 10 on the difficulty level.

I think alot of the issues that arise out of install issues are supported by the many many support threads are the simple things like

1. wrong access information

2. wrong paths

3. wrong permissions

This probally sums up 75% of all the installation issues.
