imagemagick errors

i know this has been asked a billion times, and i hate asking over and over again... but i have been attempting for 4 days and am at my wits end. the same issue most have:

Error creating thumbnail! Error code: 154

Command:

"/usr/local/bin/mogrify" -size 100x58 -quality 70 -geometry 100x58 '/home/httpd/vhosts/mydomainname.org/httpdocs/photo/data/511/103-explorer-thumb.jpg'

i was originally using gd1 without an issue, however, the images come out looking like they have run through a blender. so, i installed imagemagick without any issues as root. that is the error i am getting. i have read elsewhere a billion times that there must have been an error or that imagemagick is not setup properly. followed the directions on the installation page verbatum... copied and pasted. this is attempt #6 of uninstalling and reinstalling imagemagick to no avail. will moving up to imagemagick 6 help? i am weary as some said it did, some said it didnt.

the path to mogrify is correct, double and triple verified... i dont know what else to check here. any suggestions?

Put an image in the /data/ directory via FTP, any image at all...

Via SSH, run

"/usr/local/bin/mogrify" -size 100x58 -quality 70 -geometry 100x58 '/home/httpd/vhosts/mydomainname.org/httpdocs/photo/data/name_of_uploaded_image.jpg'

Tell me what it says.

sorry... i ditched the effort. it was giving me an error from the command line as well, although last time i tried was this morning, and i honestly do not remember what it said.

i went ahead and uninstalled imagemagick 5.3.8, and installed imagemagick 6.0. whatever it is between the two... 5.3 just will nto work no matter what, and 6 worked flawlessly right out of the gate. working perfectly now.

i am running this on rh 9, and although that should have SQUAT to do with it... i also cannot install 5.3 on my test rh9 server at home either. it may just be imagemagick, but i find it hard to believe i am the only one that has come across this issue.

I am having the same problem and this is what it says when I try the command:

[root@server1 jpeg-6b]# "/usr/local/bin/mogrify" -size 100x58 -quality 70 -geometry 100x58 '/home/virtual/site2/fst/var/www/html/gallery/data/test.jpg'
mogrify: JPEG library is not available (/home/virtual/site2/fst/var/www/html/gallery/data/test.jpg).
mogrify: Missing an image file name.

BUT, I did install the jpeg lib verbatim per your guide. I even see the jpeglib.h file in the /usr/local/include folder.

Any ideas?

OK, after reading some other posts I founda guy that chagned his location for mogrify to a diff folder (not the actual physical location of the file for some wierd reason) and it worked...

WHile rebuilding thumbs I ran into this error...

Checking photo #438: rebuilding /home/virtual/site2/fst/var/www/html/gallery/data/502/1547pr_was_here-thumb.jpg from /home/virtual/site2/fst/var/www/html/gallery/data/502/1547pr_was_here.jpg ...

Error creating thumbnail! Error code: 1

Command:

"/usr/bin/mogrify" -size 135x101 -quality 60 -geometry 135x101 '/home/virtual/site2/fst/var/www/html/gallery/data/502/1547pr_was_here-thumb.jpg'

Well, i just ran the rebuild process after disabling the gallery and it worked =]
